"University of Sewing is one of my favorite places in Bloomington. I have purchased my Bernina machines from them. Being fairly new to the world of sewing Margaret and her staff have been a godsend. They are always willing to help me. Today I want to brag on the wonderful classes you can take. This week my granddaughter has been taking a beginning sewing class with Cheryl. It has been fantastic. Cheryl’s knowledge and caring instruction has made this a fantastic experience. I have also taken many classes here. The instructors are wonderful. Besides the many Bernina machines, fabrics and notions available, don’t miss out on the many classes that are available."
"We stopped in to the University of Sewing just to take a look at their garment fabric while we were in Bloomington. I had absolutely no intention of making a purchase or even talking at length to anyone. Margaret and her staff were immediately so welcoming, friendly, and informative. At the time, I had an older Bernina that I loved and another brand I didn't love. I was ready to explore a possible purchase if I felt the shop was a fit for me. I looked at the sergers because I was considering buying one. Then I looked at the sewing machines. They helped me narrow my selection down to machines that would fit how I sew. l left that day with fabric, notions, and information about the machines I'd looked at. The following week I called them and ordered a serger and a machine even thought I live 1.5 hours away! That was almost 2 years ago. I still come to the U of S for classes, machine service, and fabric. They are my shop! I've ordered online too. The shipping is FAST! I absolutely cannot say enough good things about Margaret and her staff. They are the best in the business. You feel like you're home when you walk in the door! Also watch her Facebook Lives on Fridays and Saturdays! You'll love them!"
"The very first time I walked into University of Sewing, I knew I had found a special place for sewing enthusiasts in Bloomington! I was new to quilting, and walked quietly around the shop, marveling at their gorgeous sewing machines, and can't-help-but-touch-them fabrics, when Margaret, the owner, struck up a conversation with me. She encouraged me to "play" with one of their long arm quilting machines on the floor, and immediately began telling me all about the different kinds of machines, threads, fabrics, and needles that would help me take my quilting to the next level. I was a self-taught, pandemic quilter, so her knowledge was INVALUABLE! The entire staff is kind, welcoming, and willing to share their extensive knowledge of the fiber arts with anyone who enters. When I finally took the plunge and bought my first long arm this past March, University of Sewing was the ONLY place I was willing to go! I feel genuinely cared for there. Margaret makes it her mission to never oversell to one of her customers: she gets to know your sewing style, then truly thinks about and makes recommendations for what YOU need. Just today, I took a "No stabilizer t-shirt quilt" class. I had never used a serger before, and I walked away feeling so confident! (I also walked away with a quilt top that I can surprise my daughters with! ❤️) Believe me, this is a special place. If you want to feel cared for, go to the University of Sewing. They have become my sewing family."
"Like many quilters, I found that I needed another yard of a fabric that I had purchased locally but was no longer available there. While searching the internet I found that the University of Sewing had it in stock. I also found another fabric that I fell in love with. I took a chance and placed my order using their website. My order was shipped the next day and arrived in my mailbox in 2 days. I was thrilled to get it so quickly and very pleasantly surprised to find that they had included a bonus fat quarter with my order. I definitely will be ordering more fabric from this shop in the future and very happy with my experience shopping online via their website."
"I stopped by the holiday open house today to spend some time with Margaret, the owner of the University of Sewing. It was great to hang out for a little bit and the more time that I spend here the more that sewing becomes a part of my vocabulary. It's been great working with them to help them optimize their website and email marketing and getting to know them on a personal level. Margaret is a very talented seamstress and tailor and really is passionate about everything that has to do with sewing. It's really a pleasure being able to write a review for them and being able to consider them a friend and awesome client."
