"It was on my recommendation my daughter go to The Tax Shop. HUGE REGRET!!!! College student and first time filing. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE for my daughter! I referred my daughter to see Janie Funk, acting Manager at The Tax Shop to take care of e-filing of her 2021 Tax Documents for Federal and State only. Well, in December 2022 a notice from the City Of Detroit Tax Administration was sent wanting an explanation of 'Why was amended Tax forms sent for 2021' Unknowingly Janie efiled City Of Detroit also. Not only was this UNAUTHORIZED, Janie submitted my daughter's information with WRONG INCOME and as NON-RESIDENT. Accountability for this error was never given by Janie. Considering she represents The Tax Shop being a tax professional with several years of experience, she is held to a certain regard. Attention to detail is extremely important! It's really disheartening to see how this entire experience resulted negatively and with no resolve for my daughter! Unfortunate to say, this is now an added senario why we are reluctant to bring our business to black owned facilities. You must do better! Janie's dismissive undertones and lack of ownership or accountability is unacceptable. She caused a serious inconvenience and error for my daughter 2021 taxes and she now has to pay for The Tax Shop $80 unauthorized error! I do not appreciate how Janie handled this situation entirely! I will never bring my business back to Tax Shop, nor will I ever refer anyone to this company. An $80 error caused by this company resulted in my daughter, a college student to pay. So much for acting in good faith Tax Shop. Tax Payers I ENCOURAGE YOU TO TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE! Seriously."

"I used the tax shops e-filing services for my state and federal taxes and they filed an unauthorized form (my city taxes which I did not have e-filed nor did I give my permission or documents to have them e-filed). This error messed up my tax return and made the city tax administration believe I participated in fraudulent activity because the unauthorized e-filed document was different from what I mailed in. When I was notified months later of the error by mail by the city tax administration I called and they said a document was e-filed with the wrong income and residency and which was different from the one I filed by mail. After the representative realized I was unaware and not the person who submitted this e-filed document they hinted to call the e-filing service I used . When I called I was assured by the person who handled my e-filing (Janie Funk) this was an error on her part she was apologetic and she said she would pay for this mistake as soon as the city tax administration sent a follow up letter in response to a letter she prepared on my behalf to address the error (which she left herself and her business out of). When I sent the response letter from the city tax administration with the total owed not only did she refuse to pay for her error she also said I knew the information was incorrect the whole time so I was responsible for paying it. Her business would only be paying “penalty and interest” of $2 out of the $80 owed back. The refund I received was incorrect because she e-filed a inaccurate document without my permission or knowledge (I did not know and wasn’t notified by the city of the error until December 2022 I e-filed in March 2022). She played on her knowledge and the verbiage she used to mislead me. I am a new taxpayer and am not knowledgeable about the inner workings of tax preparation nor should I have to be when I go to a business that is trusted with this service. I was a customer who patronized her business and was understanding throughout this process until this point. She broke my trust, our verbal agreement, and refused to take accountability. I WOULD NOT suggest utilizing her services, if she makes a mistake she won’t take ownership. If I could give zero stars I would."

"I was referred here by a " friend" never again. If why I don't shop black was a place, this would be it. They were unorganized barely spoke and when I went to pick up my paperwork i had to stand outside! They had no common courtesy whatsoever. The best part? They never answer the phone nor return calls!"

"Very nice & friendly while filing your taxes until it's time to disburse the refund they change into very impolite rude and impatient people. They wont answer any questions or concerns. For this to be a black business I expect better. This is why j don't support black businesses they become unprofessional & lack customer service. My refund is being held by their "processing" procedure which I was told is after 1pm then turned around and told me to check back at 5pm & now i have to wait to be called which is a whole nother waiting "process" I'm very upset by the way they operate and I wont recommend anyone to do business with them as I officially made this my last year filing with them."
