"I got the country fried steak thinking it was going to be homemade. It was not. It was the fast fixing brand that you can buy out of Walmart. It was decent, just not what I was expecting from a “home style cooking” restaurant. Collard greens were good, mac and cheese was okay, mashed potatoes were okay."
"The BEST soul food I’ve had since I was a child sitting at granny’s table! The fried chicken was INCREDIBLE! Lemme tell ya about the cabbage: SAUSAGE in the cabbage and it was straight fire! Fried okra was smackin and crispy and the fried green tomatoes were thin, crispy and had an amazing twang to them. Rice and gravy…gravy was smooth and rich. It was over all one of the best tasting experiences I’ve had. The people were so friendly and so nice to me and my family. I can’t say enough good things about my experience at the hometown kitchen! I will be back…probably in a few days!"
"This is the best food I’ve had in a long time! I first tasted the food from Hometown Kitchen, at The Taste of Elmore County fundraiser event. I ordered the Tuesday special of meat and three. I had the best fried chicken, rice and gravy, baked Mac n’ cheese, Lima beans, and cornbread, along with sweet tea. The food was perfectly seasoned and packed full of flavor! I didn’t have to add anything, not even salt. It is family owned and run beautifully. I talked with two of the owners-mother and daughter, Felicia and Jalisa. I enjoyed spending time with them and hearing their story, and visions for their future. Everyone was friendly, polite, and I felt like I was even part of their wonderful family! If you’re searching for soul food, truly made with love and the freshest ingredients (nothing canned here), then look no further. This is the BEST!"
"It’s amazing everytime we dine here, usually once a week!! And Ms. Jalisa (don’t know if that’s the correct spelling) is AMAZING!!! Thank you for always having a great lunch!!!"
