Reviews of Old Salem Museums & Gardens Administrative Offices
"We really enjoyed our morning walk around old Salem and found our way into one of the buildings where the attendant explained to us that only 3 of the buildings were free to go into. She took out a map and explained how it all works. It was our first time and we weren't interested in paying to see stuff, so that was helpful to know. She also told us about the old cigarette vending machine they had, now stocked with artwork the size of cigarette packs that you can buy. Each tab you pull has a different type of art by different artists and she explained what you get with each one. I bought 2 to give to my niece and nephew and can't wait to see what they get. Anyway, we wandered around old Salem and stopped at the bakery (nice gift shop and you can buy some Moravian baked goods - the ginger snaps were delicious and I wish I'd bought more). The single sisters home was not open and we didn't go into the church. There appeared to be something going on and a small band was playing in the park across from the church. The fall leaves were beautiful. A great introduction to old Salem."
"A great place to walk around. I went early in the morning before everything was open and enjoyed the quiet time. It's a mix of residences and park buildings. I'm told Halloween is bonkers."
"This is a beautifully restored 18th century American history village that documents the contributions of Moravian culture in N.C. It was like visiting Williamsburg VA. without the long ride. So if you have a day or even a weekend, see this cultural making of simpler times. I found in their gift store a repurposed book creatively sculpted from the pages of the past "LOVE"! Your kids will love their Moravian skinny Cookies...so don't miss a stop at the town bakery Also their Village tavern for lunch is a home grown farmer's delight ... not sure if they take reservations as things change day by day. Check the times and dates because they are not always open. If the weather is good, do the free covered bridge, village, college, and the stone tablet cemetary first and make reservations for lunch. It took us a day. Explore the more detailed and diverse history of the village by planning an indoor tour of the many museums on a rainy day or hot afternoon."
"Very interesting place. We bought the all encompassing tickets to view everything we could. We'll worth it, the docents and staff were very friendly and knowledgeable."
"Totally wonderful. The staff is beyond gracious, knowledgeable and kind. Buy tickets at the museum or the visitor center. The Moravian cookies are out of this world! Lemon & ginger are the best by far. Definitely recommend"
