"Wonderful little museum. I found the display about Greece's efforts during WWII, and particularly the story about Mayor Loukas Karrer and Bishop Chrysostomos of Zakynthos, very moving."
"The Hellenic Museum is the museum for the preservation and portrayal of Greek culture and history of both Greece and the history of the immigration of Greeks to both the U. S. and the greater Detroit metropolitan area. Currently they have a great juried art exhibit of mostly Greek artists, a nostalgic look back at the Lindell A C (Detroit's first sports bar), a tribute to Greeks aid to Jews during World War II, and a tribute to Greeks musicians groups in the greater Detroit area. All make for a great experience for individuals and families."
"Nice that it's also near the Detriot Insitute of Art."
"The Hellenic Museum of Michigan purportedly features a collection of pottery, textiles, instruments and a variety of other Hellenic art and traditions. They invite the public to share the richness of the heritage and conserve the contributions of this culture through the arts. That’s all well and good but the hours are severely limited. The building is located on a street that is snug within the ‘Museum District’. Not having been able to access the interior of this museum to muse over their collection (which I have attempted on several occasions) I am only left to provide you with a review of the exterior until such as time as I can get inside. The building is beautiful. It is classic Americana. Its original inhabitants included a young man who invented a machine for putting powder and liquids in gel capsules. He became extraordinarily rich and moved away. I don’t believe there is anything else at that location that provides more information about that very interesting topic. The machines that were first invented, apparently, have been used around the world. In any case, it’s a nice building. When I get inside I’ll tell you more. The parking is on the street and you have to pay a fee. The place is open on Sunday from 1 to 5 pm and sometimes by appointment. It is my personal opinion that this particular museum might be better suited elsewhere. It’s a nice idea but it doesn’t appear very useful."
