Historical Ottawa Pump House Museum
About the Business
The Historical Ottawa Pump House Museum is a must-visit tourist attraction located at 2282 Ottawa Beach Road, Holland, Michigan, United States. This museum has been praised for its significant contribution to the cultural and educational life of Park Township and the West Michigan area. The Pump House Museum is the last remaining structure of the Hotel Ottawa Complex, originally built in 1901 as an Edison Electric Power Plant to provide lighting for the hotel and grounds. After the hotel burned down in 1923, the building was repurposed as a pump house to provide water to the cottages at Ottawa Beach.
In recent years, the Ottawa County Parks and Recreation Department partnered with the Historic Ottawa Beach Society to renovate the building and transform it into a museum. The museum now features various exhibitions and events, attracting over 4,000 visitors by the end of the 2018 season. The Pump House Museum is a central feature of the Historic Ottawa Beach Park's Black Lake Boardwalk, offering a unique cultural experience amidst the natural attractions in the area. With its prime location and rich history, the Pump House Museum is a must-visit destination for history buffs and tourists alike.

Reviews
"This is a free museum and very informative with interactive stations."
"The Ottawa Beach Pump House is the last surviving structure to the magnificent 1886 Hotel Ottawa. The Pump House was built as an electric power plant to supply electricity to the the ill fated Hotel that would later burn down in 1923. Today the Pump House is a very quaint two room museum housing the Ottawa Beach Historical Society, where we found loads of information about the hotel and another icon in the area - Big Red! Definitely worth the visit!"
"A fun little museum that shows a part of Holland that not many know about. The exhibits are very well done. Well worth a visit to see it and the surrounding area."
"I've driven by the Pump House for years but only thought to visit the Museum recently when I had out of town guests and it was a cloudy day at the beach. What a great little museum. If you are interested in the history of Ottawa Beach and the surrounding area, stop by! The volunteer staff are friendly and knowledgeable and they have some interesting exhibits and archival material on display. I found easy parking along the road out front."
"A great place to visit and sight see. The historic district offers walking trails and very nice scenic views of the lake. Parking can be tricky so get started early."
