About Us
Hickory Creek Preserve, located at June Trce in St. Joseph, Michigan, is a beautiful park and tourist attraction that offers a variety of outdoor activities for visitors to enjoy. The preserve is home to the Bow in the Clouds Preserve, where the Southwest Michigan Team Birdathon takes place on April 13th from 9 am to 12 pm. The Southwest Michigan Land Conservancy has worked with the Michigan DNR to create a new State Game Area within the preserve, and the LaGrange Valley Wetlands is their newest and largest nature preserve. Thanks to generous donations, the fundraising goal for the LaGrange Valley Wetlands has been met. "We hiked from the Ace Hardware parking lot at the north end of the preserve (Thank You, Ace Hardware!) to the Knauf Park (a little over a mile south at Vineland Avenue) and back through the preserve along Hickory Creek with our dog. The trail is well maintained (with a crushed asphalt surface most of the way), following a power line right of way with woods on both sides. From the trail we saw wood ducks swimming and flying in the adjacent wetlands. On our hike (October 2) there were some hints of early fall color, along with wildflowers, cattails, thistles, and colorful berries. The power line provided a juxtaposition of modern technology with nature. There were benches at several points, but not restrooms. Easy, level trail. No mud, even though it had rained earlier."
