Hickory Creek Preserve

"We hiked from the Ace Hardware parking lot at the north end of the preserve (Thank You, Ace Hardware!) to the Knauf Park (a little over a mile south at Vineland Avenue) and back through the preserve along Hickory Creek with our dog. The trail is well maintained (with a crushed asphalt surface most of the way), following a power line right of way with woods on both sides. From the trail we saw wood ducks swimming and flying in the adjacent wetlands. On our hike (October 2) there were some hints of early fall color, along with wildflowers, cattails, thistles, and colorful berries. The power line provided a juxtaposition of modern technology with nature. There were benches at several points, but not restrooms. Easy, level trail. No mud, even though it had rained earlier."
