"New Life Tabernacle of Manistee, Michigan moved to Phase 2 of our 1886 Church's renovation projects Outside in the Summer of 2023. The 21 Stained Glass windows around the Sanctuary still had the storm windows that were installed over 100 years ago (1886). As the Church sought out various contractors to perform the work only one stood out after our interviews, Traverse City's Michigan Screen & Window Repair. 16 of the 21 Stained Glass windows were of near proximate sizes, however, they were not exact which added to the challenges we were facing. Additionally, the old storm window frames were built with 3 panes of glass and set within a thick wooden frame. Over the century plus of weather, winds, storms, and sun, the frames were disintegrating allowing panes of glass to fall out. The frames' cross-member supports also did not adequately allow the beauty of the Stained Glass Windows to show outside the Sanctuary. What impressed the Church the most with Michigan Screen & Window Repair's was their "Can Do" attitude and approach with their own guarantee of workmanship and installation. Other contractors would construct a frame close to our specifications but offered no fit-up guarantees. They had to devise a new style custom mounting frame that allowed the most optimum visual display of the 21 windows' design from outside as well as protecting the century+ old designs of each window and the Sanctuary inside. The design and construction of the new storm windows took around 8 weeks, but their Traverse City office quality control department found flaws with the original shipment of windows and personally within their Traverse City facility reconstructed the window frames for each storm window. We hired them to also install the frames which was completed within 2 business days with only minor tweaking for the fit-ups on a couple of windows. As seen in the attached photos you can see the BEFORE (Brown trim paint) condition of the windows and then the AFTER fit-up view (light Beige trim paint), where the storm frames are nearly invisible to the passer-by. The frames blended in well and exposed the Stain Glass view well both during the daytime and at night (backlit with the Sanctuary Lighting). The new Traverse City office of Michigan Screen & Window Repair was very professional, provided a free estimate, kept the Church well informed of progress, scheduled and installed the new storm windows in plenty of time prior to Fall weather and winds. The church's congregation has been well pleased and impressed with results. Our first seasonal heating bill was notably reduced with expectations of more as Winter sets in.
