"We stayed at the Grand Hotel. It was an experience! The atmosphere was fabulous, the grounds were spectacular. We had a beautiful room. I highly recommend sitting out in the patio overlooking the lake and grounds. Unfortunately, we had two dining experiences where the service was terrible. One morning we sat for over 20 minutes before our waiter came over to the table. Then we waited again to get coffee. We asked for refills and he never came back to the table until our food orders came out. We had to get the manager to find someone to wait on us. Two of the food orders came out wrong. Never had such a bad dining experience. We also reserved a table two weeks in advance at the Jockey Club for dinner. It was 42 degrees out and they seated us OUTSIDE on the patio at 7pm. The heaters weren't working, and we were all in dress (no coats). I expected much more from this caliber of resort."

"This was on my wife's bucket list. We went to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. The town is cute and filled with great shops. We went on the carriage ride tour and highly recommended it for anyone visiting for the first time! So much history here."

"Can't really appreciate the island without staying overnight. It was great to see the changes that happen when the last boat leaves. The carriage tours are a must to learn about the history, horses, etc. Our guides, Jamie then Jesse were both entertaining and knowledgeable. I recommend renting bikes and riding around the island, that was really easy and the views are outstanding."

"Beautiful. Best part is riding bikes around the island. Such a view! We saved the bike rental and ride for last after we explored the Main Street, fort and Grand Hotel by foot. Plan to spend most of the day, pack a lunch, have a picnic, get ice cream at the hotel and enjoy on the porch, then rent the bikes for circling the island (more economical that way). Bike rental place we used was fantastic!"

"A wonderful experience! Get there via Shepler's ferry, go early and spend the day exploring the island. No cars, you walk, rent a bike or take a horse drawn carriage. Just enjoy ... and have some fudge. Be sure to visit the Grand Hotel!! Highly recommended."
