"Clean rooms, comfortable beds, great location, clean pool area! If you need a place to stay in St. Germain, this is an awesome, affordable place!"
"This was our experience from staying this weekend. When you first pull in, the outside looks unkept. Landscaping just doesn’t look nice. The curtains from the rooms can be seen from the parking lot and could tell without stepping foot inside, that it’s dated. But, you get what you pay for. 1) walk in and the place smells like an old basement. The furniture in the lobby is more rustic looking; like a lodge or cabin so I thought maybe when we opened the room door, it’d be more modern, but not really. 2) one of our keys out of the two didn’t work. It kept glowing yellow for access to the door but wouldn’t open it. We didn’t need two room keys so we just kept the one good one for access in and out of the room/building/pool area. 3) the lighting was so weird in our room. I tried turning on the lamp by the tv and the one hanging above the table to use as extra lighting but none of them worked. It wasn’t until someone in my room turned the light switch on thinking it was the sink light that they all came on by the switch. So goofy and I felt dumb for how long it took me to figure it out. 4) the bathroom door is so close to the toilet, it’s impossible to let anyone in or out (child(den)) when using the restroom. The lighting in the bathroom is not lit very well and felt like I was showering by candlelight. 5) when peeling the sheets back, the sheets were dated and knobby. They weren’t crisp white linens like all hotels use. The beds were memory foam, very comfortable for someone like me with back issues but I know some people like a more firm mattress to sleep on that may hate sleeping on one of the beds. The pillows were flat as pancakes. Had to sleep double up for neck support. 6) the white fabric on the box springs were disgusting on both queen beds. They have stains on them. 7) our headboard was broken, missing a piece of decorative wood on it like the bed next to it. Made me wonder the crazy sex someone had to have busted it off like that… 8) No continental breakfast. Like I stated before, you get what you pay for. $100/night will get you a roof over your head but no complementary breakfast. 9) The pool area was so ungodly hot. It felt like a sauna. The floor of the pool looked so dirty. It had twigs and or other debris that you’d find outside in an outdoor pool. 10) There were four towels left on the shelf and there were seven of us. I left two for the couple that were there using the hot tub and just shared with my family the two other ones. 11) the dog barking. I’m unsure if the hotel allows pets or not because the room we stayed in, had a sign that said you’d be charged $100 for bringing a pet into the room and another sign by the tv that said you’d be charged $100 if you smoke in the room. There was a burn hole on our curtain that I noticed when I went to shut the shades so we could change into our suits that I knew our room either was a smoking room at one point before laws changed about indoor public smoking or someone before us smoked in our room at one point. While we stayed, we heard several dogs barking throughout the day. As if the owner left the building, leaving the dog in the hotel room so all it did was bark on and off, anytime it heard someone in the hallway, etc. I could tell the person next to us with a dog came back to their room at about 11:30pm when the dog started barking otherwise I hadn’t known that there was a dog was in that room. 11) the walls are paper thin. You get to sleep and wake up to the neighbors tv blaring at 2:30am. I don’t care if guests need the tv on as background noise to fall asleep or whatever but how sucky for the neighbors next to you trying to sleep or their kids are trying to sleep with the tv on so loud. I turned the fan on the air conditioner to block out the sound or else I wasn’t going to sleep. 12) although grateful to have had a place to stay for our last minute vacation, rooms doubling this time of year especially, we will find something more suitable for my family to stay next time we are in the area."
"This review is coming a little late. Stayed in July of 2023. For the money it was acceptable. Staff was very nice and accomidating. However, we were allowed a late check out. When checking out, all the doors to every room in the hallway we stayed in were open. The rooms were being cleaned. I noticed all rooms had garbage bags waiting to be picked up along with towels that were in two piles, one from the bathroom and one from the pool. I also saw that in every room, the beds were made. This made no sense to me. Why would they strip the beds, re- make them, remove all the dirty bedding from the room, take it all to the laundry room or out of site, and not to be seen in the hallway, bring all clean linen, re- make the beds, but then go back for garbage, pool, and bathroom linen? I can't help but seriously suspect the beds were re- made with the same dirty bedding. I can't say for certain because I didn't see the entire process, but what I did see made absolutely no sense! You decide! I also saw black color mold in the corners of the whirlpool."
"Was sleeping and all of a sudden we heard this screaming coming from the bathroom. Here the bathroom toilet was screaming and flushing itself multiple times. It happened every hour. Did not get much sleep the 2 nights I was there. All I got from the lady at the desk was I'm sorry. I have stayed here many times and had good experience but not this time. Paying for a room to listen to that noise is unacceptable. Plus when we got in the room I could see damage to the bathroom door. And on one wall there was wires sticking out from something that was there at one time. Toilet was dirty and hair on the fridge. Don't know if I will ever be back."
"We rented the 2 bedroom suite and while it was not quite what we expected it did meet our needs quite well. The room was clean, the amenities within the suite were much appreciated, the pool and hot tub were also quite nice. The staff were super friendly and very accommodating. Updates would serve the hotel well as items were well worn and in need of replacement. Given all of that, I would still recommend staying at the Hearthside Inn and in particular the suite. The price was quite fair and if you're looking for a decent place in the Northwoods this would be a solid choice. Thanks for a great mini-vacation."
