"Team Rehabilitation in Chesterfield Township, Michigan, turned out to be exactly what I needed to get me through the pain, confusion and uncertainty of my broken right shoulder injury. The name of the place fits well. Going there was like being on a team whose goal was to get me through the very dark time of constantly being sore and being unable to use my dominant arm or hand for very much. It was hard work. It was uncomfortable. At times it was painful, even. But my Team at Team Rehabilitation had the right mix of patience, humor, compassion, expectations, professionalism and most importantly knowledge to get my range of motion and confidence back. This place got me the results I needed, and I'm incredibly happy I chose them. I shudder when I remember I almost didn't. After more than half a century of either carefulness or luck (or both), I suddenly needed Physical Therapy. It was a classic broken right shoulder situation I found myself navigating but it was something I've never done before and it was extremely confusing! The doctor had said to start eight weeks after my injury, but I procrastinated for three extra weeks due to uncertainty and doubt. Finally, I looked around to find a Physical Therapy place. I usually have no luck with places and services near my home so at first I completely disregarded the Team Rehabilitation because it is right around the corner from my house in the search results. I studied the rest of the listed places and their reviews from Mount Clemens to Troy and was just as confused as when I started looking. Starting at the top for another go around, I finally read all about Team Rehabilitation in Chesterfield. I decided to toss out my normal rule that anything good isn't near where I live and give them a try. Thank goodness I did! I'm a bit of a character. I talk too much. I tell long stories and sometimes write long reviews. I also tease and expect to be teased back. The day after intake, the work began, and that's when I knew I had found my Team and it was the right one for me. The following weeks were soreness and work. (Alphabetically,) Amy, Connor, Matt-the-exceptional-floater, Meagan, and Tony all got me through them in good humor. I had questions, lots of questions! I'm sure they were typical questions like should my arm feel like a circus clown twisted it into the shape of a balloon poodle (google it), and should I go axe throwing even though I can't lift my arm above my head yet? But all my questions were patiently answered and I finally understood my injury and what it would take to get better. After just a couple weeks I grabbed something off my counter with my right hand. It felt so natural and good. I didn't even think about it. It just happened. That was the beginning of my rekindled confidence. Over the next two months, I could wash my hair with both hands, brush my teeth with my right hand, and start doing everything I used to do as naturally as before my injury. I am "graduating" tomorrow and, though it wasn't one of my goals, I'll even be able to put my right arm in, take my right arm out, put my right arm in and shake it all about at any or all upcoming wedding receptions that call for that sort of thing again! I have no idea if my results are typical so please don't plan a mountain climbing trip two and a half months after starting PT for your broken shoulder. But I highly recommend starting PT at Team Rehabilitation--especially the Chesterfield Township location that's conveniently right around the corner from my house. Then you can talk to your Team about when you should plan your mountain climbing vacation."
