Reviews of Richmond Fossil Park
"Pretty place, parking for 3-4 cars. Be careful on the walk through the grass to the water - very easy to roll an ankle. Bring shoes you can get wet and clothes you can get dirty to really take advantage of the experience at the water. Kids would enjoy it. As an adult who has been around the country quite a bit it wasn’t as cool as I was hoping."
"Very impressive wall of exposed fossil. In nice weather, wear appropriate water shoes & clothes to wade in & explore up close. Would be a great hot summer day adventure spot. Informative boards & huge pile of fallen rock with box of fossils to sir & sift through."
"Great idea to get kids interested in fossils and geology. Small park with a backdrop of a small stream shadowed by a sheer, 50 foot high, rock wall. A large "sandbox" type structure is filled (and occasionally refilled) with chunks of local rock containing fossils such as brachipods, cephalolpods and bryozoa. Fossils are free for the taking."
"Large open park, edge of Busy street parking. Would be Wonderful if Richmond would add better parking lot and add fencing along street and reduce speed for Park. Watch the kids! Mowed, some trash and large area for kids to look for fossils. Nice, clean Creek area. Good for a picnic. Very Interesting, grab some library books about fossils before you go to compare."
"Outstanding place to stop and learn about in the state of Indiana, found fossils in the pile within a few minutes.. Walked down to the near by water way and found a perfect see shell shaped fossil. Highly recommend if you have the spare time to check it out."
