About the Vandolah Nature Preserve - ACRES Land Trust
Vandolah Nature Preserve, managed by the ACRES Land Trust, is a peaceful oasis located at 16151 Tother Road in Indiana, United States. Despite the constant hum of Interstate 69 nearby, this preserve offers a glimpse into the region's natural beauty before development took over.
Originally owned by James and Rebecca Vandolah in the 19th century, the preserve's woodlands and wetlands have been preserved for future generations to enjoy. Thanks to a generous gift from their great-grandson, Barney Stellhorn, the land is now protected by ACRES Land Trust.
Visitors can explore the trails that wind through old fields, marshes, and ravines, offering scenic views of Cedar Creek from a high escarpment. In the spring, the forest floor comes alive with blooming wildflowers like twinleaf and bloodroot, while the wetlands are home to wood ducks and herons.
ACRES Land Trust is a nonprofit organization supported by over 2,000 members, dedicated to preserving natural and working lands in the region. The preserve is open to the public from dawn to dusk, providing a peaceful retreat for nature lovers to enjoy.

Reviews of Vandolah Nature Preserve - ACRES Land Trust
"It’s a great place for a short hike. There are a few negative things I’ve noticed. Not all of the trail is marked properly so can get somewhat lost in there, the entrance sign doesn’t really gives you information about about the preserve and trail. On the other, the trail is very clean and there are no concrete structures."
"Beautiful place to walk, especially in Autumn. As with many of the preserves in Fort Wayne, the road noise and loud cars make it hard to fully relax and enjoy, but I suppose you can bring headphones to drown it out and take in the views :>)"
"The views are amazing, the interstate has its noises. I visited on the 18th of November and was spooked often by the gusts of wind. Maybe the road noise added the spooky factor? Peaceful besides that, absolutely loved it, giant houses can be seen through the naked trees, and across the creek. The one grassy area down a ways from the path was so beautiful in the sunrise, nice greens and happy deer. Was quite a challenge to tread quietly so as not to disturb the wildlife. I attached pictures, absolutely loved the older trees!"
"An interesting trail with some elevation challenges, about 50 feet at some points down to the creek. Paths do have boardwalks in wet areas. Trail markers are posted at main intersections, and boundaries of the Preserve are well defined. There are benches at strategic locations including overlooks of the creek. It's a nice area."
"Very nice hiking area. A good mix of habitat. Even though it's close to the highway, it's not too loud and it's kind of cool seeing the highway from the trail. There were quite a few birds back here, which I was hoping since I'm a birder. Bugs weren't too bad actually, just watch out for those spiky spiders that make their webs over the trail."
