"While all the staff were very friendly and communication was prompt, I was asked multiple times for $975 in non-refundable fees without any documentation in place. This is not a retaliatory complaint or comment, as I have good credit, no criminal history, and no previous experience with Royal Shell Real Estate. I agreed to $75 for the background check, which was completed promptly and approved. I was then again asked- several times- for the remaining $850 non-refundable security deposit plus $50 association fee. Each time I asked for a copy of the lease to accompany the deposit and my requests were ignored. I was told that the paperwork was not yet drawn up, so the signing was rescheduled. When I arrived with certified funds to sign, I was provided only with the condo application, which clearly asked for a copy of the lease agreement to be submitted simultaneously. I was told that this is not how Royal Shell conducts business. I was then again asked to provide $900 (non-refundable) without any paperwork of lease agreement in place. I declined to do so. It is my opinion that asking for a significant amount of money, especially when non-refundable, should only be standard policy when accompanied by a written agreement. While Royal Shell Real Estate policies may not parallel this, I disliked my experience and will conduct future business with more prudent companies that have policies supporting clear documentation to accompany monetary transactions."
