"My Dad was admitted in early October. Because he was upset at not going home, the nurse told him that this was like a resort. No one would be waking him up at all hours of the night to take his vitals, give him shots or interrupt his sleep. Just a quiet place to rest. That was the perfect thing to say.. Everyone was kind and treated him with loving care and respect. I will never forget that. He passed within a couple of days but he was at peace. ."
"More than Terrible. The worst decision I ever made was to get Vitas involved in my father’s care. The whole experience was terrible. The home healthcare nurse was bossy, condescending and mean. The rest of the “team’ wasn’t much better. I will forever regret trusting Hospice to care for my sick father. Hospice inpatient basically overdosed him on medication and killed him. They were extremely rude. I brought my father to inpatient care so his medication could be “figured out”. I was called by the incompetent nurse and told he didn’t belong in inpatient care and that he had lots of life left. Next day he was dead. The nurse said she didn’t even know what time he died. There is not a day that goes by that I don’t feel like my dad’s days were shortened and stolen by lazy nurses that overdose to keep their work to a minimum. Be forewarned."
"My aunt was placed here. Care was great at first, but as days turned into weeks of my aunt actually recovering, the more and more the assistants would persist in asking if she would like more morphine, more medicine, all the while she displayed no pain. By the end of it she had been so dosed on morphine she would sleep day and night. No eating or drinking, no communication no nothing. Just watching someone you love crumble and starve, dehydrate and become a shell. Once we had accepted her days were now numbered we decided to bring her home for her final days. The nurses that would stay over were also persistent in drugging her when she was not even conscious. The morphine had made her stool so firm she was no longer making bowel movements in her intestine bag, but they still have her double doses every few hours. Nurses were very rude in discussing matters such as “today might be her last day” “she’s passing soon” right in front of her, while yes she is unconscious, we don’t know if she can hear us, what she’s thinking. Once the nurses realized she had been surviving so long, they got tired of changing her bedding and cleaning her to which she got festering bed sores and blisters. By then she hadn’t eaten in weeks, she became frail and her face was sunken in. The whole experience has changed me as a person and was absolutely traumatizing. Do not put a family member here unless they have wishes for their final days to be unconscious and uncomfortable."
"I wanted to thank the entire staff at the hospice house for how you took care of my Mom. She was only there for a short time but your staff was amazing. But I want especially than Rene she connected with my mom and was such a comfort for her in her final days. Rene is an asset to your company and should be commended!!!"
