AF Inn White Sands 404 7th Street, Eglin Air Force Base, FL 32542

"If I could give this place negative stars I would. How is it that I keep the AC at the lowest setting and have the dehumidifier on as well and it’s still 80 degrees inside the room when it’s 70 degrees outside??? The staff is friendly but the rooms are dated and old from the 80s and if you’re gonna have Inns/hotels on base you should at least ensure that each room has its own AC unit instead of either having heat or cold on for the entire building. Like if it gets unusually cool during the summer you can’t turn on the heat and vice versa during winter if it’s warm. They had one puny chiller in the parking lot for the entire building which couldn’t handle the HVAC demands which made my room uncomfortably hot and impossible to sleep in. I asked the staff if I could be moved buildings and unfortunately they had nothing available and when I asked about a refund they told me I could be only refunded for 1 out of the 2 nights since I had checked in even though the night hadn’t passed yet. I can’t be upset at the staff though. Their hands are tied by the DoD who wants to try and save money and cut corners."

"Well to be honest it is base housing. However the headboard fell off and the dehumidifier was leaking all over the room and as I went to fix the headboard my legs were sopping wet from the water that had been leaking into the floor. The headboard fell on me. I informed the lady at the front counter so no one else would be surprised. She was very nice. I did start coughing in the room the whole time. Oh they do not have elevators but that’s ok with me. I don’t mind stairs."

"Lodging rate is 2.4x the BAH rate. A/C isn't the greatest but it works fine. Everything about my stay has been nice except for the price gouging and taking advantage of PCSing service members. Especially in today's housing market 'crisis' in some parts of FL, you would think base hotels would at least match the BAH rate while we wait to get in a home. But nah, charge us 2.4x the BAH rate so we can barely afford anything else."

"If you like sleeping with giant cockroaches this place is for you! Rooms smell of mildew as well. Look like room service tries their best but rooms are still pretty gross. Not even worth the $70 a night. Room service and staff are friendly though so I will bump up to two stars. This building does need to be condemned like the rest of it."

"On the walk to the door of the room my girlfriend and I noticed a lot of bugs. Being that we were in Florida we figured it was just a Florida thing… we get into the hotel, get settled in, then my girlfriend accidentally knocked the pillow off the bed to reveal a VERY large roach. Upon further assessment… more roaches. We take photos and videos. Go to the front desk (which is a ten minute drive) and express our complaint. We are given another room. We opted for one on the second floor. We drive all the way back to the hotel, go up the stairs and try to open the door and the key doesn’t work. We had been driving for 26 hours straight. I was so dang tired. I ended up going back to the original roach room and passing out on the bed. That’s how tired I was. In the morning we find more roaches and go back to the front desk and ask for a refund. The lady said she wouldn’t give us one and that unfortunately sometimes there are bugs… WHAT???"
