"I had a great experience today adopting a male cat. it didn't take long after I picked the cat I liked before I was doing adoption papers. you go in tell them if your there for a cat or a dog and they help you with the rest. they have a cat book up front you can look through, you pick a few you want to meet and fill out a form and off you go. if you have a spouse they also have to do a meet and greet and show ID. I'm sure if you have other animals the process might be a little different. I payed $25 for the adoption fee and $5 for a carry box to take my new baby home. staff were great, polite and helpful. they will answer any questions you have and make sure you find the right pick for you."
"My husband and I adopted Luna at the beginning of January. Everyone we encountered was very friendly and helpful. We could see they care very much for all the animals they have. Our adoption counselor, Fantasheia, was amazing and so patient with us. Luna is doing great at home, and it's only been a few weeks. I would recommend anyone looking to adopt a new family member to consider visiting Humane Society of Marion County."
"I mean it's a great place to see pets and animals. But the dogs can be intimidating when they keep barking loudly at you. But the cats are cute, And I've found my two lovely dogs there. ( I got the brown one Yoshi somewhere else though )"
"The staff were so sweet and helpful. They really love the dogs. There are so many people just buzzing around working either directly with the animals or the humans looking to adopt like us. It runs like a well oiled machine and it is all to benefit the animals. The dedication there is beyond compare. We adopted Jazz today. She is currently snoring on her new pad in our living room room taking her first well deserved nap. She is beyond sweet and rode in my lap on the whole way home. She was not remotely stressed. Coming directly from the shelter, that is pretty impressive. That speaks volumes for the staff there and the care they take. Fabulous place to adopt. Such a wonderful experience. Update from Lucy (formerly Jazz) I would like to give my new family a five star review. When I first met them at the shelter I noticed how hard they were trying to impress me which really impressed me. They were so gentle with me. I really fell hard for my new Mom on the way home because she let me ride in her lap and be close to her heart which I really needed right then. I loved their house too. They already had set up a pad with loads of squeaky toys on it. I showed them how cleaver I was and managed to destroy all my squeaky toys in only five days. Then they bought me some tougher toys which are harder to destroy but I am working on them. I love my yard where we play tag team crazy ball. I keep one ball in my mouth at all times and my Mom and Dad stand on opposite ends throwing a second ball. I run to get the ball, tag it and switch balls and then they throw it again. It is a great exercise routine. We also take lots of walks around the neighborhood. I love riding in the car now too. I ride all alone in the back seat now with my own custom doggie seat belt. We have been on lots of outings. I have already been to Lowes, Home Depot, and the local farmers market where I have met loads of dogs and people. After a little shopping at the market we like to just hang out and listen to the live music and people/doggie watch. I lay down between my parents and just watch the world go by. I love it. I really feel like this will be my furever home. I can't believe how lucky I got. Thanks HSMC - you guys found me the perfect parents."
