"Unfortunate experience for my sick doggie. I have a dalmatian and if you know them they are anxious dogs. My baby does have high anxiety, but she's not an aggressive dog. She has a set of specific commands to help control her in anxious environments that we have worked very hard on. This process started with my vet back home years ago. Who helped me work with my dog when in these environments. When I first called to book the appt the lady was so nice and sympathetic. I gave her all the info about my anxious pet, her personality and what to expect. She was amazing and I was thankful that I was finding a vet that would be able to work with her again. It was such a reassuring feeling. I have to be involved in the exam because my dog will not allow anyone to physically hold on to her but me. With continuous reinforcement she can be touched, poked and examine but through the process she has to be reminded of her commands. We arrived and it was a nice facility. When we walked in my dog greeted a little boy and his dog sitting by the door. The lady at the counter was very sweet as she handed me the paperwork and had my dog step on the scale. Once completed we were called back shortly after. The lady asked some questions and I gave her the run down of everything going on. After she said she needed to take temperature. She advised she was going to have this other lady "hug" my dog while she took the temperature. I let her know that with my dogs anxiety she's probably not going to let them hug her and that I can hold her in place for them if they dont mind. She said they can't do that because of insurance reasons. I tried to explain that my dog is probably not going to let them and if I could be involved it would be less traumatizing for my dog. She said they won't allow it. (During this time the lady that is in charge of putting my dog into a hug is trying to get closer to my dog but my dog is tail tucked, ears back, side eyeing this lady. And this lady was just as nervous as my dog! My dog just allowing the lady to have enough reach to scratch under her chin. While any attempt to advance closer, my dog would move back. She tried to grab her a couple times but wasnt able to get close enough before my dog would retreat). So I'm told she will get the doctor and he can tell me the same thing. Dr. Richard came in and right away with a demeaning tone and manner advised that either they hold my dog or I can leave cause they have other patients. I said I was willing to give it a try. I tried to explain my dogs anxiety and commands to Dr Richard so they would be able to get her to settle to get close to her. He would not let me speak though. And just lectured on how they deal with dogs all day and know what they are doing. I tried to explain that I am confident in their ability to do there job its just how my specific dog reacts. But he wouldnt even allow me to say anything. He would raise his voice over mine to talk over and down to me. I really wanted to work out a care plan together. But unfortunately he had quite the pompous ego and wanted to argue. I was taken back a bit by the demeanor and that not even once with him did he allow me to finish any sentence before cutting me off and over talking me. Instead of us working together to provide the best care for the pet and not have any training set backs on where we are at today, he said this isn't going to work since he has other patients to see. I left there balling my eyes out and my dog on edge with this strange person trying to grab her. I just couldn't allow them to cause any mental trauma to my dog especially when it's unnecessary. For a quick vaccine or checkup for a normal dog this place would probably work. But as for the ability to work with and listen to their patients this is not the place for a sick or ill pets. Would not recommend for anxious pets It's not worth the health of our pet, whether is physical or mental to just be a number on the books. Noone is going to be our dogs voice so we have to be."
