"I am a former teacher at Pyramid. When I heard about this place, I was overwhelmed by the amount of excitement and joy I had. I had never come across a school for people with disabilities and differences before. It was like a dream, which is all it is...a dream. Unfortunately the reality is far worse. Upon being hired on I was thrown into everything without any proper training or instructions. I was just expected to know how everything there works. Fortunately I have experience working in this field a bit. Unfortunately, most of their new hires do not and would quit after a couple of days. When this would happen, most of the staff would complain about how weak they were or how they couldn't take it. They would refuse to acknowledge that those people were scared and extremely overwhelmed and the problem wasn't with them, but with the fact that there is no training there whatsoever. After about 3 days I was given my first class to teach alone with absolutely no supervision. I started out with 6 students and eventually ended up with 9 in the smallest classroom in the building. It was so small that eventually our class was taking place in the cafeteria, which we had to vacate everyday at lunch time of course. As for teaching, everything was up to the teachers. There was no curriculum, no lesson plans, no scheduled activities. Each teacher was completely responsible for the education of their own class. That included shopping for school supplies off the clock. The company would provide you with a Walmart card and you would be allowed to buy up to $50 worth of supplies for your class. Well of course today $50 doesn't go a long way, so everything over that would have to come out of your own pocket. This made it extremely hard to try to teach a class full of students, all at different points in their educational journey. In trying my very best to teach, I was constantly confronted by management that had issues with the way I was teaching. Mostly using videos from Sesame Street to help my class learn their alphabet and numbers, and enjoying an episode of Bluey during snack times. They claimed that it was belittling to them to show them such "childish content". I fought against this constantly, telling them that my class loves the content I show them and they're actually learning. What was belittling to the students were the other teachers who would throw on SpongeBob for the entire day, tell their students to shut up and sit down, and then play on their phones the entire time. There was also no respect to the students and their personal beliefs as everyday you could hear Christian music being played down the hall and teachers preaching to students. But what astounded me the most was the way the teachers constantly treated the students. They would come into work in the morning with a horrible attitude that would last the entire day. They would talk extremely rudely and sometimes even yell at students. I would have students periodically join my class throughout the day because they'd ask to come be apart of whatever my class was doing. They really enjoyed being in my class, and it wasn't because I was doing anything special. It was simply because I talked to everyone with respect and treated them all like people and not inconveniences. This treatment of the students by the other teachers is ultimately the biggest problem I had with Pyramid. Upon leaving this business I found out that over a year ago a student died, and it was entirely due to their negligence! A year later while I was working there, this neglectful behavior was still happening! They don't seem to care that they are responsible for someone's death! Instead worrying more about their students watching Bluey during snack time than how their teachers treat their students! The dream is not the reality, and I wish that wasn't the case because these students deserve better!"
"Their staff are very caring and professional"
"Best place in the world great staff caring staff amazing folks"
"The staff at Pyramid are so wonderful My daughter loves them!"
"The most amazing facility I have ever had the opportunity to tour. The lady who ran the place was the most down to earth, kind hearted person. At the same time, she has the business sense behind to run the place. Just the artwork on the wall is worth the drive. God bless them!"
