"Therapy with Stephanie has been very helpful. I really appreciate her openness and the ability to see the story from all perspectives. Nice and welcoming office."
"Don't go here if you're not white. I was stuck in traffic and ended up being slightly late to the meeting, so my wife had gone in to meet her first. As soon as I greeted her and sat down, she just started suggesting that we had to recognize "our cultural differences" to make the marriage work. Regardless of what my wife had said to her prior to my arrival, I thought it was sort of rude to talk about that as soon as I showed up. I felt like I was being judged by the color of my skin, tbh. I gave her the benefit of the doubt, but then throughout the whole session she made that totally into the main focus to the point that even my wife thought that was kind of strange. (As if the only important thing about me was being Asian.) And ironically, I don't have cultural ties to Asia at this point. I immigrated over a decade ago and now speak only with a slight accent. Also, if every marital problem can be explained by obvious "cultural differences", her job would be pretty simple, wouldn't it? I think a good counselor would at least hear my side of the story before passing judgment on me. What's worse is that she had made it clear that she thought we were having trouble because (in her mind) that I acted just like every other Asian man. If you don't know the stereotype, let me explain. Apparently every Asian man is very totalitarian and very controlling...apparently. My dad doesn't act that way, my brother doesn't act that way and I most certainly do not. It's just really insulting to have someone accuse me of that without even talking to me or getting to know me better first. She also pretty much brushed off every concern I had and made it very clear that "no, it's YOU who have to understand". I don't feel like I was being heard at all. The irony of it all is that I was the one who suggested couples counseling in the first place and that I had paid for the whole thing with my own money. This pretty much stains my view on counseling as a whole. I get that it was a first session and the whole thing could turn out to be a big misunderstanding, but I don't think we'd be going back at all."
"Stephanie is a excellent therapist. She listens to You and pays attention to what you are saying. Her communication skills are excellent. She’s emotionally attuned to your feelings she helps you identify what is going on. Again a excellent therapist. Well educated."
