"I’ve gone to school here for 3 years and can say I’m more than glad to be leaving this summer for good! Would never let my kids go here unless it was for the drama or dance program. None of the other programs get any funding. I’ve watched staff members watch a student get her face bashed into a sink and not do anything. There are food fights and physical fights daily and the staff can’t get the students under control."
"I love this school and the magnet program! The thing is is that some of the teachers don't care for teaching. They seem to just give you work and do it yourself without teaching. I've experienced this but not much, most of the teachers actually do their job, just in my experience, a few teachers haven't been doing their job. Then there's just the drama but that's fine, that happens in other schools too. They let students express themselves with their amazing talent, I still go here, its my last year and i have gained so much experience for art."
"Only a good school if you in the act or dance program at the school otherwise they place your children in class where teachers teach absolutely nothing at all so if your looking to enroll you child I'd. Recommend that you sign them up for the fundamental programs"
"My daughter has been in the Art Magnet program for the last 2 years and loves it. There is the normal middle school drama with students but in response to the Review by Rainpebbles that couldn't be farther from the truth. I can not account for her personal student issue and sad to hear the outcome was not good but no students are forced to participate in the Magnet program, in fact you have to apply and accept the portion of the program you want to be in. The only program that will now be mandatory is the IB program which was implemented this past year. Mr. Brown has been to all school functions we attended included Trojan Pride both years. The school has PTSA and Magnet meetings once a month that all parents are invited and encouraged to attend. The PTSA program is attended by Mr. Brown each month and a student and Teach report updated each time. The teacher turn around is low and they have taken steps to keep the student disruption to a minimum. Our schools are only as good as our participation by us the parents as well as the Principle and students. Get in there and participate, be the positive our kids need if you see a problem."
"I am currently a 4 year Mom at John Hopkins. My Daughter went there for 3 years, and currently my son still attends as a 7th grader. I will be a JHop parent for 5 years when we are done. The Magnet programs are amazing. My daughter was in Journalism magnet for 3years. Amazing Journalism staff with alot of education, knowledge and REAL LIFE EXPERIENCE behind them. She has since moved on and is furthering her pursuit of Journalism. My son started ut in the Art Magnet and has since switched to Drama Magnet. The Art and Drama teachers are focused, talented, caring and very knowelegeable. But JHop isn't only about the magnet programs. They have both had excellent teachers amongst the regular curriculum teachers. They have taken vested and personal interests in seeing my children succeee. Worked with them if they struggled. They have contacted me to coordinate new strategies kept me in the loop of my childrens performace. The staff has always been helpful, courteous and supportive if there has ever been an issue. I would reccomment JHop to any parent, especially if you are looking for a great focus program for your child."
