"The food is so good! This reminds me of my childhood and the type of cooking I would expect from my momma. This is good soul food and I am glad that I tried this place. I look forward to trying it again. I had the smothered pork chops, with green beans and candied yams. It was so good! I took a nap afterwards to dream about how good the food was. Thank you for this good meal!"
"I am very picky when it comes to my groceries, but I have not been disappointed yet. Everything is so good. My favorite dish is the yellow rice, smothered chicken, collard green medley & the Mac & cheese. Although it’s a bit to sweet for my taste, the signature drinks are very very good as well. There is a nice variety of desserts that are also really good. Give it try, you’ll be hooked."
"I must be blind. I go to Hook’s all the time and I haven’t seen 239 Soul Food at all. The other day, I spotted it and legit did a U turn. The wife and I had to try it out. Going in, the buffet style serving really caught my eye. It was amazing and probably the smartest idea that I can think of. Does it heat the place up? Yeah, but the smells are magnificent. I have to preface this with, we are picky eaters. We do eat everything for sure BUT we can be critical of what we eat, so please forgive anything that may be harsh that you read. First, the pros: mostly everything! My smothered pork chop was amazing. The flavor infused in it was delicious. The way it just fell off the bone was amazing. The rotisserie chicken was cooked well and seasoned great. The collard greens were well cooked and were pretty good. I know everyone does their collards differently, put ham in it, salt it up a bit and over ways and this is just one of their ways they cook it and so I can say I liked it and leave it at that. The Mac and cheese was to die for. I loved it so much! Cons: oh man, that corn bread. It was a muffin, and it was so dry! I’m so glad they loaded the sauce of the pork chop in with the meal because I needed to dip that corn bread in it to give it flavor. Over all, I loved it, though and I’d defiantly go back, and recommend it."
