"We were in Ellijay, considering building a home. We found the website and sent them an email. They reached out to us immediately and set an appointment. It was very informative as well as friendly. This is a very professional outfit, they are good at what they do. Their portfolio of clients and current projects speak volumes of their character, skill and abilities, They are very friendly and accommodating. Thank you Mr. Grant. We hope to use your services in the future."
"Michael Grant did the outstanding design work which was well planned, easy to implement and who was a pleasure to work with. Design of a new home is very detailed and Michael made himself available and was very knowledgeable, making the home build fairly stress free. Joe Dixon was the GC who has a crew that works for him and then subcontracts some of the work out like the HVAC, concrete and other. I generally found Joe likable with a portfolio of beautiful home builds to his credit. His crew, led by Frank L. behaved professionally and was pleasant to work with. If you asked me three weeks ago how many 'stars' I would rate them on this page, I would have given them a "5", but since then, we have discovered what we hope was an anomaly in their work. Another contractor building out the unfinished basement this summer, noticed that under a stone chimney (located in our Great room) was wet. Upon investigation, he reached up into the chimney void and discovered a huge fungus growing. That certainly leads you to think there is a moisture problem. This led to more investigation on the outside of the chimney where stone was removed and the underlayment was discovered to be rotted. Last week, we had a stone mason remove all the rock which exposed widespread and extensive structural wood rot. The entire structure could have come down without much effort, causing injury. During construction and after it was turned over to us, the water running freely down the basement walls after it rained was the subject of discussion and phone calls with Joe for many months with him saying I will "put together a plan" or I'll get C_____ to come over and look at it. We are uncertain whether his stone mason, C_____ ever did anything to stop the water but we did notice that no more water was coming down the basement walls. That just means the water found another path to follow and that the damage just went on unchecked. Fast forward to last week when the mason removed the rock and discovered that no flashing was installed at the roofline, the moisture barrier ended at the siding and didn't wrap behind it, the scratch coat was too thin and of a poor material, the mortar to attach the rock was not heavily applied to hold the rock (which explains why 15-18 rocks had fallen off over the years) gaps between the rocks exposed too numerous to mention places that water entered behind the rock, bare wood where no moisture barrier was used. On the backside of the chimney, up high where no one could see (unless you were on a scaffold), rock was haphazardly placed with no uniformity to the other three sides. There was little to no mortar between the joints where your could see down to the moisture barrier (felt paper) and the stone on the corner that wraps around to the adjoining side was not installed. This corner stone appears on the two front corners. I don't know if it was a lack of oversight or the money ran out or they just wanted to get the punch list done, but they just didn't care enough to get it right. This didn't need to happen and with proper remediation when we kept asking them about it, I would not be replacing an entire chimney. In the past I was happy to provide the name of MRH to those who asked who our builder was. The house is truly beautiful and is our dream home. I hesitate to tell someone not to use them but be forewarned, once you give them the final draw, caveat emptor. I have written to Michael and Joe but they have not responded. This review, sadly is our only recourse."
"Image Doors provided custom Carriage House garage doors for a couple of Modern Rustic Homes projects. We enjoying working with their staff for the selection and installation of our products. The style and beauty on the log home designs highly complimented the outstanding quality of the garage doors."
"Over the past 30 years, we have built three houses. This experience with Caldwell Banker High Country Realty and Modern Rustic Homes, by far, has been the most pleasant and rewarding. From day one, our contact with Michael Grant has been a journey that any homeowner would relish. If we could script a perfect real estate experience, this would be it. Our intuition, after speaking with Michael for the first time, was…here is a trustworthy, meticulous and professional Realtor and builder. While Michael provided real estate, design and architectural expertise, his team also included a builder, Joe Dixon who is the best contractor I have ever worked with. Without exception, at all levels, everyone we came in contact with (carpenters, plumber, cabinetmaker, painter, etc.) were professional, courteous and skilled and cared deeply about the quality of their work. To this day, 7 1/2 years after completion, we are still in contact with Michael and his team. They promptly return phone calls and follow up on any questions or requests that we have . I am proud to say that not only did we end up with a spectacular home, but we also ended up with true lifelong friends. The Haydels"
"Fantastic team. By far, best build house I have ever owned. From design to finished product, the Modern Rustic team was professional, honest and communicative. Follow-up after the closing was exceptional. A delight to work with! David & Mary Jo Cox. Big Canoe, GA"
