"I showed up for my scheduled appointment and attempted to check in with Tina at the front desk. She asked to scan my ID picture into my chart and I told her that I don’t mind providing ID to verify my identity but I didn’t want it attached to my chart. This was my first visit to this office and to be honest…I always got pushback when I explain this at other healthcare facilities, but it’s never been a problem…Tina said it was their policy and that she’d need the ID in order for me to be seen. Also ok…so I asked to see the policy and verify exactly what was needed for myself. After about 15 minutes she comes back with the policy. Long story short…after reading the policy, nowhere does it state they need an electronic copy of my ID on file in order to treat me. They just need to confirm my identity. I say this to Tina, at which point, she said they need to reschedule the appointment because of the time. I told her that it wasn’t my fault that it took her so long to get the necessary information and that I made the appointment because I needed to be seen today. Leanne then comes out from the back and threatens to call the police and have me removed. I’m not sure why the police would need to be involved in a customer service issue other than this white woman felt like it was ok to once again use police brutality as a way to to intimidate another black person. I walked out, frustrated and in pain, but went back and asked to speak to the office manager and/or doctor because threatening to call the police was unfair and uncalled for. I had to ask several times but got the office manager’s number and was threatened with police again…I wasn’t acting crazy or being violent…I was patiently waiting for her to come back with the policy. Even after she wanted to reschedule, I tried to reason with her. I didn't do anything to warrant the treatment I got from Emory today. I went in to get treatment and got racism…Thanks Emory"
