"I reached out to this therapy group not too long ago. This isn't a review of the therapists themselves. This was just my experience - I wanted to set up a free initial consultation as mentioned on Therapy Den (a therapist directory for the black community). I had to go back and forth with several people from the office regarding that free initial consultation (first being told that it would be 10 minutes and free and that the therapist would be reaching out to me, to being told that I would need to book an hour appointment and pay $99+ for a consultation appointment). They said that this is because the therapists were currently booked with clients and due to high demand are not offering consultations, only appointments. In that case, it seems more like they shouldn't be taking on new clients if they already barely have enough time for their current clients (or they should be asking potential clients to wait) rather than asking potential clients to pay $99+ for a 10 minute appointment, especially when the consultation is advertised as being free and is necessary for seeing if the place will fit your needs. That's just ridiculous to me. It's very frustrating because that immediately sent off the vibe that they'd rather make money off of you than actually help you. That made me sad as a black woman who is already struggling financially as well as mentally. Suffice to say, I decided not to move forward with them and found another black therapist (who was honest with me about their client load, I waited about a month before she could give me a free consultation, but once she did, I started working with her right away!) They should also remove the free initial consultation from Therapy Den if that's not what they're actually offering or have the capacity to do. Like I said, this review isn't' reflective of the therapists since I never got a chance to work with them. This is just about my experience with Joie de Vivre Counseling and Therapy, LLC as a whole. From the valet service knowing my name when I arrived to the nutritionist walking me to the elevator when I left their luxurious office I felt loved and well taken care of. Julie is expert at what she does. I walked away with a plan for meal planning for me and my family, post-workout recovery plans and plans for maintaining consistent energy throughout the day.
