Salem Middle School 5333 Salem Road, Stonecrest, GA 30038

"I am a student at Salem middle school, I won’t lie I have gotten a pretty good education whilst at the school, however the school is very dirty, restrooms are often dirty and soap is rarely found in the soap dispensers and toilet paper is often out of the bathroom not to mention the fact that the toilet paper is farther up than the toilet it’s self which can cause some discomfort when usin the restrooms. Aswell as the lack of warm water in many of the restrooms other than the sixth grade hall. There is also the fact that many of the students get into fights that lead to a lot more such as one fight a girl bit someone’s ankle and however only one got suspended and it wasn’t the girl who bit the ankle, the school is to lenient when it comes to punishments for fights, The teachers could also use some evaluation for example mrs.pulphus the science teacher for team 7b was ridiculously loud all the time and yelled for the little things she often told us to “shut up” and to “close our damn mouths” this did not motivate us to work harder however when there was an observator in the class she would act like the perfect teacher, also she would tell us not to ask her any questions about the homework or class work and if we went to ask another student who knew the work she would tell us to “shut up” and would call our parents saying that we were talking class and would comment on behavior that never even took place in class. There is also the efficiency of the counselors from experience they often loose letters and notes from parents, here is my experience by the time second semester came around I was removed from chorus and placed into gym my dad wrote a letter to place me back into chorus that January however after 4 months I never got a response from the counselors about my schedule in which I could only assume they lost it. Very similar with some medicine records they lost the paperwork and called for us to go the the doctor when we didn’t have to go in the first place.Not only that but the gym could also use some renovating with new bleachers. Although I may not know how long many of the bleachers have been there they are amazingly dirty with gum stuck to them and dirt and mucus behind them. I believe that the school staff should be more efficient in making the school a better place for students that is clean and welcome and papers are in place other than that. Go Lions!"

"I wished I had researched schools before transferring my children into this district I can't wait to get out of this area. I went in to shadow and could never ever go back kids are disrespectful classes over crowded and what is the purpose of connections? These kids are not being challenged academically and will only be able to sustain as citizens of Georgia smh moving to Gwinnett or Cobb county where education is valued and children can actually learn UPDATE.... I transferred my children back home and now they are behind due to the lack of rigor in the curriculum."

"I have been a part of the Salem family for three years now. Admittedly, I was hesitant to send my kids to the school after hearing horror stories. However, my children have excelled in this school. No school is perfect. However, I have made every effort to ensure that this school is perfect for me. I am active with the teachers and administrators. I have volunteered my time and donated money to classrooms. This is my neighborhood school and I insist that the expectations that I have of the school are met. I have enjoyed the opportunities that my children have received through such programs as Junior Achievement. I will continue to support this school as that is where my tax dollars go. Life, very much like this and any other school, is what you make it. Go Lions!"

"As a parent and now part of Salem Middle PTA/PTSO. I have been able to see what my children (your) are talking about. This is a great school and can be a better school if parents get more involved and stop acting like this is a daycare. Yes, it has its problems but the problem can't be fixed if the school don't have the support it needs. The staff can't do their job if they have to do the parent job, point blank. So when you read these reviews and comments realize one thing, how many of these people really took the time out to help fix the problem or just setting back on they butt and mostly likely are the problem. Lets make Salem and our kids a better place.It starts at Home not at Salem!"

"DO NOT send your child here. My son is in 6th grade and out of 7 teachers, I only found one teacher that should be a teacher. My son has learned about gangs since being here. The assistant principal has called about my child talking and her only solution every time i talked to her was suspension. I've expressed my concern about the lack of education my child is receiving, but you can never find any help. Nothing at this school is organized. Nothing at this school is positive. I happen to move in the neighborhood not thinking a school can be that bad, but I was wrong. This is one of the worst parenting mistakes I have ever made in my life."
