"Mrs. Dye and Mrs. Blake at Park middle do not seem to possess a basic understanding of current educational research, as they are actually still using methods that were long ago proven completely useless and ineffective. This leads me to believe that current developmental and educational practices, as proven by science, are not valued within the school system. Working with a tutor for thirty minutes a week has my son testing three grade levels above where he currently is on the skill they feigned concern about. Luckily, his father and I keep up to date on current research. My concern is for the children who don’t have parents keeping up with the research. Please be wary of what you are told by your child’s teacher and do your own research, as current science doesn’t seem to be a concern in this school system."
"Air conditioning does not work at Park. Please cancel school tomorrow 5-16-18."
"No air conditioning in Woodrow, almost 73 degrees and 2,000 students. Ha. Stupid."
"For the most part, they don't care much. I feel like lately they've been doing better but generally they don't actually care about the students. Shady Spring students have been going to school while it is a construction zone. It's dangerous and makes learning 10x harder. And when there is a water outage or something where people don't have it or power, they won't cancel school or make an exception. I definitely wish the Raleigh County BOE would up their game."
"School is pathetic now a days. Kids who have learning disabilities are left behind while the Teachers cater to the ones who make good grades and have caught on pretty easily. The IPads they were given what 3 or 4 years ago was to help the Child in School and would have all their class related subjects as Apps installed on them. I have yet to see that happen but by God they sure know how to take pictures and play games real well on them. If the weather even says there may be a chance of snow in the evening, the Schools are dismissed 3 hours early only for it to maybe snow less than an inch around 6 o'clock that evening... School Bus Drivers are to lazy to get up and chain up to make runs, so they just call and say they can't make it... The School Districts have gotten really worse over the years. Back in the day, Bus Driver put on Chains and went. School wasn't called off unless there were too many bus announcements. We had to usually walk to our Bus Stop sometimes a mile away in 6 inches of snow or more and stand an wait on the Bus. There were no early outs because of weather. I guess since our Country is going to Hell, then I suppose our States and Counties are going to follow suit."
