"After about 2 years, I decided to part ways with this Vet. I had inquired about a few services for my dog, attempting to be proactive, and was not given the best recommendations now I have to be reactive to those escalated issues, which in turn will cost me more money. After consulting with another Vet, I feel it’s best to place my dogs care in the hands of another clinic. After reading the unprofessionalism and insensitivity displayed in the comments of other reviews to owners, I do not feel comfortable trusting this Vet to care for my dogs escalated issues. Our pets are like children to us and at bare minimum from a Vet I would expect professionalism at all times. Always consult for a second opinion is a valuable lesson. If you are going to respond get the facts right. I have a 5 year old dog who doesn’t need more than 1-2 visits per year as needed (from late 2021 through mid 2023). I also came in several times to purchase wet food my dog loves. The ignorance is bliss after the response below. Nevertheless, the number of visits doesn’t negate away from the fact that the service is poor. I don't need to come make this business look bad, you do that enough for yourself!"
"I am totally impressed with the quality of the staff here, and blown away by Dr. Johnathan Holzwarth in particular. I have an elderly dog of a giant breed, who is in decline. They have provided him with excellent professional care, and me with total kindness and compassion. We could not ask for more."
"Highly unprofessional and as a person who works in this line of work I am highly irritated with this location. Was told one thing and then got charged doubled what was told to me while my fiance took our dog. I dont suggest anyone going to this location, one doctor, long wait times, holds on phone for over 7 minutes. Definitely do not recommend."
"My love for Buckhaven Vet began when Foxy, my Italian Greyhound had an abscessed anal gland (TMI). We had been going to WellPet humane, and they refused service as they were too busy for a long time patient. I requested our records, and as I was driving by Buckhaven, I gave them call. Samantha answered the phone and said that while they were full for the day, they would do their best and to come on in. She put us in a room and gave me a warm blanket for Foxy. Dr. Mark popped in, told me it would be a little bit and he would take care of her, offered me a beer because clearly, I was stressed and covered in the most disgusting fluid ever. They took great care of my girl, and our family has been loyal clients of the practice ever since. Fast forward today and our IG “Chino” has liver disease. He desperately needed a teeth cleaning and the anesthesia I consented to, sent the disease into regression and it was SCARY! Dr. Holzwarth suggested trying a medicine for his liver and I had a new dog in less than 24 hours. My 10yr old boy has a new lease on life and I am forever grateful(he’s my favorite, shhhh) Dr. Schaefer has overseen the allergy care for Foxy, backaches for Ace (4 yr old rambunctious IG) and help with Chino as well. You will not find a better vet clinic around town that will do everything they can for you fur kids! It’s a wonderful family over there and if you aren’t a part of it, you are missing out!"
"We had a great experience at BuckHaven. We called on a Wednesday and were able to get an appointment for that Saturday as a new patient. We were allowed to go inside, even with social distancing going on. It made us feel more comfortable that we got to go in, especially since we’d never been before. There were no other patients in the lobby, and we were easily able to stay six feet away from the employees. The inside was decorated very nicely and the room where we saw the vet was huge. The place felt very clean and well-kept. The receptionist was so kind and welcoming. The vet tech, Mary (I believe), was also wonderful. Our pup took to her right away, and she took to him. The vet, Dr. Britton, was amazing as well. They were patient with us as we asked a bunch of new dog parent questions. Even after they clipped our dog’s nails, he didn’t hold it against them and still loved on them. We don’t think the prices were anything out of the ordinary. They itemized the bill: office visit ($61), leptospirosis vaccination ($34.61), decal check ($88.16), heartworm antigen test ($53.72), nail trim (free), Trifexis (they said the first one is free), PhytoVet CK shampoo ($23.06) for allergies. It was $260.55 in total, which is about the same as what we’ve seen from other vets. On the bill, they have reminders with dates for future vaccines, which is helpful. We felt like we were in very good hands at BuckHaven and we’ll be back. We definitely trust them with our favorite family member!"
