"My son asked for a year to join a martial arts program. After a year of diversion, we caved and took his younger brother and him to a free jiu jitsu class at Gracie Barra Dawsonville. They were hooked day ONE. It's hard to explain, but it's unlike anything they've done. They've both played basketball, baseball, etc, but this is different. It's a martial art with discipline and expectation with an intentional and effective teaching of a skill that will help your child defend themselves if needed while exerting physical fitness ALL while having fun. It's all encompassing. Jenene, the gym's manager, is an angel and has created a warm presence the moment you walk in, professors Shawn and Ray are THE BEST - kind, patient, and knowledgeable, funny, sincere, and fun. The coaches (Brian, Zack, Owen, Nelson, and Joe) are just as awesome with the patience of Job and the kindness of angels. In fact, we were so pleased with our boys' experience, my husband and I joined too. I am not naturally great at it, and the professors and coaches have been nothing but encouraging and kind. Ladies, it's a great workout for all fitness levels and you will 100% learn to defend yourself to the point of success while learning a skill you can take with you anywhere at anytime.
