Reviews
"Beautiful course fairways could use a little work in some spots however the ranger was very rude and disrespectful even parking within my field of vision during my shots at times. Would like to return for the course but not sure if it’s worth it because of the ranger"
"Nice course conditions for a fair price. However, the ranger was extremely rude and condescending. This was my first time playing this course, and I didnt realize that driving in the wooded areas was a cardinal sin at Oconee. I apologized to the ranger and explained that I was new to the course and didn't see the sign. I acknowledge that I was in the wrong and completely understand them wanting to prevent this behavior. However, instead of using this as an opportunity to educate us on the specific rules for this course, the ranger decided to threaten us and yelled at us to move the cart "NOW, or else". After we complied and apologized again, he continued to follow us around the course, no doubt looking for any reason to kick us out. I was ready to write this off as him having a bad day, but after reading other reviews here, it seems this is not an uncommon occurrence. I really wish I could give this course a better review but I cannot in good faith recommend a place that allows their employees to treat people like this."
"Always enjoyed this course until today. The older lady working the register was rude. I couldn’t tell if she didn’t want to be there or was just having a bad day or both. Anyway, their rates went up and they were charging summer prices during winter season because it was warm outside. We kept getting mud and grass all over our clubs and tried to see if we could get a voucher for the last 9 holes and come another day when the grass is dryer. We’ve done it one time before and it was no big deal. When we tried explaining why we wanted the voucher to the lady, she told us that if we wanted to insult them that we were welcome to leave and that the course was in perfect condition.. so anyway imma play this last nine and it’ll be the last nine I’ll ever play here. I can pay similar prices for a better golf course where the employees have a better attitude."
"I’ve tried so hard to love this course. It’s within a reasonable distance from my home. But every time I go there’s something that ruins the experience. It has so much potential as a golf course. The greens are great, fairways are pretty decent especially in the summer, tee boxes are so so, but overall the condition is pretty good! It has some issues, however. The pace of play is very bad at this course. Today we sat behind 3 foursomes of what seemed like fraternity guys who were screaming, dancing on greens, filming each other dancing, and hitting balls at each other (very close to us), and playing from the tips when it was very clearly too difficult for them. (I am not good enough to play from the tips either). After complaining in the pro shop, which I never do, the Marshall never came out to sort the issue and we were stuck paying for 18 holes and only being able to finish 13. If the pace of play was better, and monitoring who’s on your course became a priority, this would be a major improvement. Several times I’ve played here my cart has either been dirty, out of water for the club and ball cleaner, or missing a scorecard. Not a huge deal but gets a little more annoying each trip out. You can call for tee times or book them online, but the online tee times do not always match up with the availability online. Very often you have to call the pro shop 3-4 times to get someone to answer. You also can’t book online as a member (last tried 2022) I think this may have been changed, but in 2022 tee times were SO close together. It gets even worse when the course is backed up. That seemed to cause a lot of issues. One time we were in front of two foursomes that were 20 minutes late to their tee time. The simple solution is that you don’t let them play, they are ruining the experience for everyone else who reserved a time. Now we have 8 people waiting behind us! Lastly, the dress code they require is insane when nobody on their own staff even follows it. I’m on board with having a dress code, but when your Marshall is wearing jeans and a dirty sweatshirt it just defeats the purpose. I won’t give up on Oconee country club, but to pay $40 to play 18 at 2:20pm today and only make it to hole 13 because we’re behind a bunch of drunk and slow college kids hitting balls at each other is ridiculous. Will try again soon but there’s just so many pain points."
"This course has so much potential, and it is currently being squandered by a few. There is a guy, Tom, who is consistently rude and condescending; to employees AND customers. It causes noticeable tension, in one form or another, every time I play there. I now drive further, and pay more, to avoid dealing with the unpredictable and chaotic environment at this course. You never know what hard time you will be given, or if you will even be able to play. I went today, there were 5 cars in the lot, yet I couldn't play because of an event that kicked off in an hour... This course can barely break even, and 1 guy is running off dozens of paying customers. Will be relieved when he is gone and the environment becomes more positive. Until then, I just got my first membership at a course in better shape, with a kind staff. Now that the owner has left a rude and emotionally charged response to my honest review, the issue seems a bit less resolvable for me. I reference multiple incidents with multiple people. The "old man having a bad day" excuse does not work here... The owners emotions, and Tom's bad day (boohoo), are not the customers issue."
