MUSC Health Ophthalmology at Storm Eye Institute 167 Ashley Avenue, Charleston, SC 29425

"My child has been going to storm eye institute with MUSC for quite a few years. Dr Peterseim and the other doctors that we’ve seen have been great. However, they can be quite sneaky when it comes to what you are charged/billed for, and them not telling you in advance. For instance, we live close to Columbia so we would normally go to the office closest to us. One time there were no available appointments at the closer clinic, so they asked us if we minded going to the downtown office. Well, i’d prefer not to because it was a good bit further for us to drive. However, my child was due for her appointment. So we did. Only to find out later that it was like an extra $150 just for the location. Most recently there were no available appointments with her usual provider so they asked if it was OK if they put her with another doctor. sure, everyone’s been great so far. Well her previous appointment with her typical doctor for a routine visit cost me around $112 for an “established outpatient visit”. Then I get a bill for this most recent appointment with the different doctor and was charged a total of $607. (out of pocket equaling $282). FOR A ROUTINE EYE EXAM!!! Because they put it in as a “new patient comprehensive exam”. My child is in no way a new patient to this clinic. And it was the same routine exam she’s been having for years. I contacted them and pretty much nothing was done about it. If I had known it was gonna cost that much more just to see a different doctor in the same clinic, then I would have just waited to see our normal physician. We will no longer be going to MUSC storm eye Institute."

"We waited for over FOUR HOURS along with about a dozen other poor souls, the staff had to serve snacks on account of some were faint with hunger. WAY OVER-BOOKED! If I had known I never would have agreed to them doing my surgery, now I'm dreading having to go back for the evals.And please don't bother posting your stock computer generated response. "I spent two hours waiting to see the doctor. I was there on time for my appointment. I did not make one person did act like they cared about a patient. I will not ever set foot in MUSC facility again I hope you all feel proud of yourself."

"I called with concerning symptoms and was able to get an appointmnet for first thing the next morning. Everyone at the practice was very professional and took my concerns seriously. Dr. Ulian was very thorough in her exam , answered all my quesitons, explained everything to me, and referred me to a retina specialist in the practice for a follow-up visit. I am very glad I called Storm Eye Institute and did not wait to be seen at another practice."
