"My wife and I have been vacationing on Daufuskie Island twice a year for many years, many weeks at a time, and this is the first time in 18 years that I have needed serious medical attention. I had come in contact with poison ivy just before coming here this fall, and it kept getting worse and spreading regardless of all the itch creams and calamine lotions I put on it. So, I realized that it could be spreading internally and sought medical treatment off-island, I had no experience with any urgent care facilities but chose this one because it was very close to the ferry embarkation and had some really good reviews. I called the day before I was to go over, and the receptionist was very courteous and ensured me that they would be able to help me. The next day I was greeted by this receptionist, and she said she remembered me. She was very compassionate and understanding, and I was seen by a nurse within 10 minutes of being seated to take my vitals and discuss details of my issues. Within another 10-15 minutes Dr. Fowlkes came in and was extremely pleasant and concerned about the severity of the poison ivy that was spreading to so many places. He explained how it can spread systemically and decided that a 4-prong treatment would be needed to get it resolved. The 4-prong treatment involved: 1) a steroid shot that would take immediate effect, 2) an oral steroid that would extend from the following day for 6 days, 3) an oral anti-itch pill that would be taken 3 times daily for 6 days, and 4) a topical cream to sooth the skin from itching and help it to begin healing. I could not have asked for any better, more caring response from the staff there and how professional they were. Dr. Fowlkes was awesome and spent a lot of time making sure I understood what he was doing and to be sure all my questions were answered. The male nurse who gave me the steroid shot was extremely professional, and I hardly felt the shot at all. He said he got much of his training in pediatrics with young children where he learned how to give shots in a way that didn't hurt. Bottom-line ... I would highly recommend this facility to anyone needing urgent care at a level that I found to be very enjoyable and with extremely great results. Since my visit I am now resting comfortably and seeing clear progress toward healing from the poison ivy itching and painful sores. Praise the Lord for the folks at this great facility!"
