"Coastal Climbing has amazing staff and amazing routes. They have a great variety of walls from slab to cave and even have a Kilter and Tension board. If you're in Charleston and want to climb, this is the place."
"As much as I wanted to love climbing here, I was not very satisfied with this climbing gym. There is very little climbing offered, being only bouldering, for a price that is equal to any other gym I've been to that offered twice the bouldering and included tall wall climbing, as well as exercise classes and equipment. Weightlifting equipment is barred off to guests, only 5 parking spaces available, and you have to manually move mats while climbing, leading to a queue of waiting for others to finish using one to climb yourself. Memberships are far too costly for the services offered and cost more than any of the other gyms I'd visited previously yet offering far less, even with the premium membership. Being the only indoor climbing gym around, it's a shame that the gym doesn't upgrade to keep up with the rising popularity of climbing."
"Great DIY-vibe gym with a lot of fun, thoughtful climbs. Boulders only, and the gym is generally pretty small but the route setting is great with a proper selection of holds. They have a kilter board and several other training boards, along with a pretty humble bench/dumbbell gym setup. Great community/supportive vibe at this gym. I came here while on a gig in Charleston and immediately felt welcomed. Climbing here is hard and you’ll have to earn some climbs below your typical gym grade, but the sets are good and worth the effort."
"Having not been in two years due to COVID, I was pleasantly surprised they had done some upgrades and expansions. Three kilter walls and basically a full training facility on top of the border and they already offer. As far as climbs go I find them very stout but quite enjoyable. Nothing like getting a little razzled on a climb that you feel like you should be able to do and then getting it and feeling amazing. I always enjoy my sessions here and the staff are very helpful with explaining any gym specific rules."
"I really enjoy each time I go to Coastal Climbing. I got the summer membership which is $190 for June-August. As a USC student, I am not home in Charleston during the school year. I found this to be fairly-priced as a normal membership would’ve been over $250 for the summer. The climbing routes rotate just enough to where you’ll never feel bored or stuck. The staff are really friendly, and so are the other members. Unlike many commercial gyms I’ve been to, Coastal Climbing never feels gross. And arguably there are way more people touching more surfaces and walking around barefoot at this gym than Planet Fitness, Crunch, or Pivotal. I will be renewing my membership over winter break because of the positive experiences I’ve had this summer."
