"It’s not a good financial investment. We had one child graduate from St. Joe’s, after having spent over $100,000, but we pulled the second child. We were led to believe that if our child was academically successful at St. Joe’s then they would receive ample scholarships for college that would offset the financial commitment we would make to SJCS. Our child was successful, academically, but they only received the state lottery scholarship that could be used for their college of choice. We pulled our second child because of the disappointment over the first child’s financial loss, in addition to the fact that SJCS didn’t offer the range of AP courses that public schools did. In our experience, success in AP classes (having access to many subjects for AP participation) in addition to academic success will set your child up for a more favorable entry into college. All of the top 3 private schools in Greenville use the same “smoke and mirrors” encouragement to lure you into their, supposedly, rigorous programs but the payout when your child goes to college (after you’ve spent nearly $150,000) is not as substantial as it would be if you save your money and send your child to a carefully selected public high school."
