Charleston Pro Bono Legal Services
About the Business
Charleston Pro Bono Legal Services, located at 111 Church Street in Charleston, South Carolina, offers free civil legal assistance to low-income clients in need. Our dedicated team provides advice, brief preparation services, and direct representation on a variety of civil legal issues. For more complex cases, we connect clients with private attorneys interested in pro bono work to ensure access to justice for all.
In addition to our legal services, Charleston Pro Bono is actively involved in community outreach events, educational programs, and clinics throughout Charleston County. We partner with nonprofits and stakeholders to better serve our community and educate the public on the importance of legal aid.
We also work with area schools such as the College of Charleston and the Charleston School of Law to provide legal education and volunteer opportunities, instilling a sense of public service in the next generation of attorneys. Our efforts help raise awareness of the justice gap and the need to address it.
Thanks to government and foundation grant awards, as well as the generous support of the Charleston legal community, we are able to provide our services at no cost to eligible low-income residents. Through donations, volunteer services, and fundraising events like Art on the Beach and Champion of Justice, we are able to continue our important work and assist thousands of individuals in our community each year.
Your support is crucial in helping us continue to provide essential legal services to those in need. Please consider contributing today to help us make a difference in the lives of those we serve.

"Worst legal services I've ever received. This office takes cases just so they can get paid by the government. They work against the client instead of for the client. Extremely unprofessional. I will be filing a complaint with the Bar Association. I will also file a malpractice lawsuit against the attorney who represented me after I contact all of the other people who had a horrible experience with this office."
"Highly recommend using these services!! My landlord wrongfully withheld my security deposit and Charleston Pro Bono Legal Services helped me to get it back. I am a low income resident of Charleston/recent college graduate. I did not have any legal expertise or money to pay for a lawyer, but since I met their income requirements I got free legal services. With the help of Attorney Elizabeth Hartman, in a difficult case against a corrupt attorney/landlord, I was able to win my security deposit back x3. When I showed up for court, not only was my attorney there, but a team of people from their office came to support me. I cannot express my gratitude to this organization enough! They do great work."
"I reached out for legal aid meet all the requirements presented all of my documents,on an open and shut family court issue. They never even view my paper work they just said they couldn't do anything. Personally if you want to cut state funding this would be a great place to start"
"This is food for the soul. Once you taste it, the world just fades away. A wonderful, authentically Black culture experience. Can't be replicated. The staff is friendly and the food comes hot out of the pan. LOVE, LOVE THIS PLACE."
