Mercy Anchor Community Center
About the Business
Mercy Anchor Community Center, located at 1012 East 28th Street in Erie, Pennsylvania, is a beacon of hope for those experiencing homelessness in the community. With the recent opening of the Mercy Anchor Community Center (MACC), the Mercy Center has doubled its capacity to provide housing and services to men, women, and children in need. The center offers 13 two-bedroom apartments in the former Holy Rosary School, providing a safe and affordable place to call home.
Through cooperative agreements with various organizations, MACC offers a wide range of services such as GED and computer classes, pre-employment training, a food pantry, gymnasium and fitness center, AA and NA classes, primary and behavioral health services, and more. Thanks to generous donors who contributed $5 million to the project, the Mercy Center can now house up to 64 individuals at a time through its transitional and permanent housing programs.
The transformation of the once-vacant school building into a thriving community center was completed without incurring any debt, thanks to the dedication and hard work of the Mercy Center team. The center serves as a hub for residents and Erie community members alike, offering a supportive environment for those looking to improve their lives and achieve self-sufficiency.
With a focus on providing affordable housing and essential services under one roof, the Mercy Anchor Community Center is making a positive impact on the landscape of homelessness in Erie. Through a collaborative effort involving community partners, the center is able to offer a holistic approach to addressing the needs of those experiencing homelessness, helping them on their journey to a brighter future.
