"Ugly Mildew filled windows with leakage and bad insulation which will make your utility bill go up! Great people at management, maintenance is responsive for minor repairs, but lack of leadership and commitment to major projects such as changing those windows! I was told over 3 mos ago that windows will be changed before move-in, now I was told they are unlikely to do anything about it next year or so. Sad and disappointing."
"I lived at the Mount Hope Lofts for 2 years and can honestly say it was one of the best experiences I have had living in an apartment in any city I have lived in (NYC, NJ, VA, MD, and FL). Wonderful and friendly staff, super attentive maintenance, spacious units, safe location, close proximity to the hospital and dental center, and JeRon and Alexandra in the front office are amazing. I also used the gym every morning, and while not the largest gym, it definitely got the job done! Couldn’t recommend living here any more 10/10"
"Pros: It's quite convenient if you work at the hospital, which is a quick walk (5-10 minutes). Maintenance is excellent and very prompt. Easy to pay rent on their website and you can put maintenance request and communicate with staff easily on their website. The apartments are also very nice - in-unit laundry machines are convenient and work well. They have a nice parking garage which is reasonably priced. Cons: A little expensive for Rochester; albeit it is because of its location and amenities etc. I do agree with some of the comments below especially with strangers coming in the building at night and sneaking in the elevators with other tenants so that tenants can swipe for them. The walls are thin and you can hear tenants talking, having parties and playing loud music at night. The fire alarms goes off quite a bit at least around the beginning of the academic year. There's a no smoking policy but can smell cigarettes coming from the vents. Management thought it may come from outside, but I doubt it if the streets are empty, the window is closed, and it's 1 AM. Unfortunately they can't do much about it since I have no idea where the cigarette smell is coming from, but it's still frustrating to have to deal with every week. There are also other issues that I will not go into that I found disappointing when I moved here. It's a decent place to move in when you don't know Rochester well and work at the hospital, especially if you are a medical student or a resident. But there are definitely more affordable places with less noise, more space etc that are just as close to strong memorial."
""Mildew Town" would be more appropriate. My experience living here is typical of a corporation taking advantage of a tenant. You should definitely check the Better Business Bureau complaints on this corporation which manage several other properties (as I should have checked firsthand). When I first moved in I didn't have a choice because I didn't have any alternative apartment to move to, so I had to accept the apartment as is. Big mistake. The condition of the apartment was very poor because it was dirty (onion skins in the kitchen drawer, dirt on the side of the kitchen island, hair in the freezer, spatter on the kitchen cabinets and under the microwave/range hood, dust on the pendant lights, dust in the bathroom vent). There was also a sharp metal strip between the carpet and vinyl floor that was sticking up. Several requests were made with unsatisfactory repairs until an email to the management office was sent with a photo. Then, after only several months of occupancy the cheap vinyl floors gradually started peeling and warping. A request to have the floors looked at resulted in the management to send personnel to literally look at the floor--nothing more. Under false pretenses that plans for repair were being made, a few weeks went by and still the repair was not done. Therefore, a second request was made. The management said that personnel would be in the unit to address the issue; however, at the end of the day no evidence of repair was done. Another request was made. The management responded by having a shoddy repair done the next day. The floors were still peeling and remained a tripping hazard, so what else to do but send another service request? The management said that a flooring vendor would then come in to take a look, then said 'professionals' would come in to do the repair. After the so-called repair, the floors were still peeling, salt and dirt, boot prints, and scraps of materials were strewn all over the apartment, in the kitchen, and in the bathroom!! After all this, there was a leak in the laundry room and water was seeping through all the areas of the floor that were 'repaired'. After mold was discovered and repairs were done, the floors were peeling yet again. Management (unable to be reasonable because they are controlled by the corporation) refused to reduce the rent, one of the managers left the corporation, and then the City cited the floors for a repair. The floors were 'repaired' yet again. This time, they had to expose the concrete base to dry out, then closed the floor the following day. That same day the 'repair' was finished, the apartment had a strong solvent eye-burning smell unbearable to live in. No attempts whatsoever to warn me or to ventilate the unit with a fan, no window was opened. But guess what, it's Friday and after 5 pm and management were already gone. I was basically forced to vacate the apartment because it was too cold to have the windows open in February. Long story short, the latest repair is only temporary as the floors are starting to peel again. It took THREE MONTHS for the management company to take care of the issue. It's rare to find an apartment close to the medical center which also has a W/D in-suite, but this apartment and corporation are so not worth the money, time, or suffering. Too bad the lowest rating I can give for my review is 1 star. You might be thinking that if it's so bad, why didn't I break the contract? Simply, the corporation will charge you wayyy more than the rest of your contract ($4000) to dissuade you from leaving early despite their hoity-toity claims that they have a long wait list of potential tenants. Ps. Forgot to add that the corporation accused me of ruining the floors by putting wet clothes on--not true at all. What kind of person puts wet clothes on the floor when the dryer is next to the washer??? Only someone uneducated would say something like that IMHO."
"Mt. Hope Lofts is definitely the best apartment option in Rochester. The buildings are new, clean, and secure. The staff is very responsive and deals with issues promptly. It's also great living so close to shops and restaurants, and nice to be a short walk from U of R and Highland Park. The apartments themselves are HUGE -- I have never seen such enormous bathrooms or so much closet space in an apartment! If you can afford to live here, it is by far the best apartment choice in the city."
