"Made a loop path to Gertrude's nose and back to the parking lot. Two difficult steep patches around the area you intersect with Coxing Trail. Highly recommend going clockwise if you want to save the easier carriage path for the way back and avoid going downhill on the steep bits. Saw a cottonmouth rattlesnake sunbathing on the path. Mind your step"
"Hiked here in October after a raining week. It’s a challenging hike if you’re a novice hiker and took us about 5 hours to finish. I recommend going clockwise on a sunny dry day, or you risk the whole trail being flooded and slippery. There’s a large rock with a spine and drops on both sides that can be risky to get by. I definitely recommend hiking poles and gloves. The views at the top are amazing and more enjoyable if the weather is nice."

"We are nowhere near being fit. Took us 7 hours to finish the 7 miles, including about an hour in food breaks. Spectacular views. 2 challenging climbs that are clearly highlighted in AllTrails. Definitely do the loop clockwise so you are on the smooth carriage path on your way back when you will be exhausted."
"It’s a moderate hike, pretty long with some steep climbs. During the rains, some spots can be very slippery so please be mindful of that. If you’re hiking in the hot summer weather, definitely carry lots of water. Also, some parts of the path can be pretty narrow so you need to be careful. The view at the top is pretty amazing but would have loved some more views through rest of the hike too."
