Reviews
"The trail was ok but the trail to the creek was amazing. Will be back to do some creek walking"
"We signed in at around 11am on an April morning, and had the trail all to ourselves! Spring was in the air. The sound of the river on the trail was the only noise we heard. It was a relaxing hike."
"The Fred J. Cusimano Westside Overland Trail in Chautauqua Gorge State Forest has been updated with new drainage and a "Gorge Loop" that provides amazing views of the gorge below. The trail is far more sustainable than in the past, and it now directly connects to the Chautauqua County Rails to Trails."
"This spot is at the end of the road past various other cites to put up a tent. We parked here, and then walked down the little trail south, and found a spot to camp just off the trail. The trees are fairly spread out. At the parking, there is also a trail downhill to the gorge, which is lovely, with the stream wandering its way through rock. Since we'd come a little past peak period, we had it to ourselves. Like other campers note, we had someone show up and blast music from their truck that we could hear even over 600 feet away through the trees. That's not why we come out to the woods. We called the park number the next day, and they said if it is during regular hours, you can call a ranger and he will come out and keep things quiet. Just north of the parking is a short trail that goes to a nice overlook above the gorge, but far from the best I've seen in Pennsylvania. Sadly, by the overlook, someone has painted in bright lettering on a tree. It's garish compared to the surroundings, and sounds like it promotes the contemporary western idea of "love," which is often based on personal feelings and perversion. I don't need to see that promoted in the woods any more than I need to hear music blasting. It's a comfortable spot otherwise, and there's more to explore than we got to. We would definitely return."
"A gravel road leads to short walks in the woods and camping grounds discreetly placed to ensure privacy between campers. Picnic areas and in some cases fire pits. No trash cans or potable water but you aren’t far from civilization. Be careful for ticks and check yourself and your hiking partners for them. Deeply quiet at night."
