Reviews of Howland's Island Wildlife Management Area
"Started out at mosquito point, on the canal, it was clear water. Progressing north, I planned a counterclockwise trip around the island. The further I paddled, the more clogged with euro. water chestnut it became, until I got about 100 yds into a solid mass of it at the N. tip of the island and had to turn around. This was in the beginning of June. I guess early spring would be a better time for kayaking. I did see 3 eagles, a plethora of great blue heron, kingfishers, cormorant and various waterfowl etc. So for the wildlife per mileage I got, it was a good little trip."
"Lots of heron's and turtles, jumping fish and some ospreys. Natural and undeveloped. A great paddle. Just know that late in the season you can't make it all the way around the island due to seaweed."
"Amazing hiking place! Very large so you don’t usually run into too many people. Plentiful wildlife to see include geese and the occasional beaver or muskrat. Stay in the trails and be careful of poison ivy."
"It’s a beautiful walk. A place I’ve been going to since I was young. The bugs have been getting bad the past couple of years to the point where you can’t get out of the car without getting attacked."
"Beautiful roads to ride on bike but you need a mountain bike on the trails. Recommended hiking to my friends. Shows you can still get away from it all near home! Boating is very nice also!"
