Reviews of Green Hills Farms
"This locally-owned supermarket stocks an extensive collection of brand-name products. It also has a store-brand line that provides shoppers a lower priced option. However, unlike major chains such as Wegmans which are systematically eliminating brand name products from their shelves in favor of low-bid, often inferior, store-brand products, Green Hills emphasizes brands you love and trust. Another area in which the store excels is the produce department. There you'll find beautiful, fresh fruits and vegetables lined up in neat rows of impressive symmetry. You might even view the colorful displays as artistic. Other areas to check out include the bakery which offers one of the best half moon cookies in upstate New York, as well as artisan breads (try the Tuscan Boule), pastries, cakes, bagels, and their famous donuts (try the glazed old fashioned buttermilk donut). Also the deli department was recently acknowledged in our local newspaper as making superior subs and sandwiches. We've confirmed that by trying their Turkey, Italiano, and Tuna Salad subs. Finally, they have an excellent selection of beers and ales from microbreweries and Europe. Overall, this is a gem of a market."
"I shop here most of the time and pretty much since the 80's have memories of taking the bus here with my grandmother. Fresh green beans and brussel sprouts. Sometimes Green Hills has some rare fruits. I believe there meat selection is pretty good. Green Hills has a very good bakery and it's better than the top Super Markets that I have been too. Fresh seafood at the right time. Boar's Head roast beef is amazing and I like there elbow salad. The beer cooler is big and has a good selection of beer from most of the worlds. Also, the only place I seen Arizona Iced Tea the hard version really good haven't seen it any place else than here."
"They lock the front doors before the posted time. And if you happen to be inside before this happens, they announce the time as being 5-10 minutes ahead of actual time. Tonight I needed pizza dough and cheese for dinner and got there at 8:55PM. The front person made a slicing gesture at his neck and then yelled through the glass "We're closed!" Basically their message to me is, any last minute sale isn't worth our time because how much can we make off a few items. It's rude and it is taking us customers for granted. I no longer think they are "the best little grocery store in America." Their prices are high, their fresh fruit is hit or miss, they use hydrogenated oils in their bakery, and their supervisors/managers are condescending (like why are you bothering me). I recommend that they change their posted time to 8:30PM and lock the doors sometime up until 9PM. Easy fix. Meanwhile, I recommend that we petition Wegmans to open up in our area because I don't think they really care what we think. After all they are "the best little grocery store in America," but are they?"
"came here for the meat and wasn’t at all disappointed! my rib eye was excellent from end to end, my wife’s strip steak was juicy not dry like Wegmans. the bakery selection didn’t disappoint!. we purchased a cake that was second to none. EVERYTHING WAS as advertised; no false advertising. simply the BEST!!"
"Saw thier TV ad for craft beer choices. They do have a big selection. The make your own 6-pack is a great deal."
