"They hire anyone. They are very unprofessional ,Maria doesn't care who she hires. Karma and God is beautiful. Do not waste your time , my friends child was poorly neglected here , I reported them. All staff talks about the kids and treats them disgusting. Maria believes she's God. I will forever tell astorians do not take there kid. Kids deserves justice. I am shocked this dump is still in bussiness.... but has nobody. NEVER SEND YOUR KID. MUCH BETTER PROFESSIONAL LOVING STAFF. MY LIFE IS GOOD NOW AWAY FROM THIS LOW GARBAGE"
"The best Day Care in Astoria!"
"The director hires anyone that applies. No one there is properly trained in education or a certified teacher. It should be illegal to allow children to be around untrained "teachers". This director does not do background check on her employees. She hires and fires within a month or two for no reason. Your child will constantly meet new caregivers which may cause confusion and discomfort. The director always finds something negative to say about each child and spreads the words between the employees. Things you should be aware: a) There is one adult for every 10 or more children at during certain times of the day. b) They do not potty train. c) Sippy cups are all put together at the reach of any child. Germs spread easily, d) Any child with minor behavioral problem is immediately kicked out of the daycare. This daycare does not have the experience, knowledge, or patience to deal with such circumstances. e) Children get colds, ear infections, and even head lice which makes you think how clean this place is. Parents aren't notified if their child shouldn't attend for the day. They all sleep side by side for 2 1/2 hrs. The beds aren't cleaned or assigned so you don't know who slept in which bed the day prior."
"My daughter goes here. We moved from Staten Island recently. Compared to the daycare my daughter used to go to in SI, this place is much much better. Better program, better teachers, etc. Overall I am glad I chose mushroom house daycare. I am very pleased to see her progress with learning different numbers/alphabets."
"My son attended the Mushroom house. I was so excited when he started, but within weeks, I couldn’t wait to get him out. Top 4 things you should know: 1.- Children are taken on mandatory walks around the neighborhood. 2.- There is one adult for every 7 children. 3.- They DO NOT potty training. 4.- Sippy cups are all put together in a bin for the kids to get whenever they are thirsty. (Great way to spread germs!!!) My son has a speech delay. His lack of communication causes him to get frustrated and has tantrums when you can’t understand or figure out what it is that he wants. This daycare in my opinion does not have the experience, knowledge, or patience to deal with such circumstances. Ms. Pamela the teacher for the 2 year old is very nice, polite, and friendly. However, the director is the total opposite. Top 5 things that made me remove my son from this daycare other than the once listed above: 1.- In the 2 months my son was there he had constant sever diaper rash. (I don’t think they change the kids regularly, because he NEVER had a diaper rash until he started at this daycare. 2.- They have regular garbage cans in the classroom with no lids. I picked up my son one day to find him eating a piece of cake that someone had thrown away earlier. There was 3 teachers/teachers assistance, including the director, and none of them notice my son taking food from the garbage. 3.- My son, kept getting colds and ear infections during his time there, which I can’t help to think how clean is this place. 4.- In the 2 months my son was there he made no progress in speech, behavior, or any other developmental mile-stone. 5.- Everyday that I picked up my son the director had something negative to say (he is having tantrums, he is not wanting to take walks, he doesn’t play with other kids, he hits other kids, etc.) When I asked her what they were doing to correct behavior her response was whatever you tell us to do. HELLO!!! Aren’t they supposed to be the professionals!? Since then I have removed my son from Mushroom house daycare, and placed him a preschool. He has only been there a week, but has blossomed in unbelievable ways. In his 1st week at his new school, he has added 3 words to his vocabulary; His tantrums have gone from regularly to hardly any at all. He plays well with the other children, is well on his way with potty training. I hear and see nothing but positive things at his new school. I am so glad that I have removed him from Mushroom House Daycare; it is now obvious to me that the issue was not my son, his speech delay or behavior. It was the unqualified, understaffed, and negative atmosphere that the Mushroom House has to offer."
