"Aprox 2 years ago I was charged over $700 to diagnose and replace the defective smart thermostat they installed with my original system aprox 15 years ago. Part of this cost was $20 to use a credit card plus tax. The repair service was fine but I feel this cost was rather excessive and I told them so at the time and tried to get a response from Carrier. At the time of replacement the contractor believed this was a fair cost. I checked the current retail price of this Honeywell thermostat and it costs about $150 now but other smart thermostats are advertised under $50 (probably with a rebate). Possibly every HVAC contractor charges this much, so who knows if this is the going price."

"My wife and I are planning on a large addition to our home. Two new AC systems would be required to handle the load. We wanted to interview local and family owned HVAC companies in the area, and thought we would give Apex Heating and AC a try since they are Preferred Carrier dealers. I took a day off and had JJ come out to the house to review the addition plans that my architect put together. JJ said he would get with the owner to see if they were up to "taking on the job". I emailed JJ a copy of my plans. A week went by, no response. I emailed JJ to see if he received my plans. He replied and said that he had and would talk to Jimmy about it. 6 weeks later, no response.... I contacted North Carolina Heating and Cooling and had a better and more professional experience. Quotes for both a Trane and Carrier split systems came in line with my contractor's budget estimate for the project. My experience with Apex Heating and Air Conditioning was a waste of time and a waste of a day off. I wouldn't recommend using a company that is willing to pass on a job opportunity because they view it as being too complex."
