"Dr. Shelly Hwang has no equal when it comes to personality and caring. I called and left a message begging to have my wife seen. It wasn't even a day later that the office called me back. We saw her for a 3rd opinion and even though we have not sought treatment with her, she has been instrumental in helping shape my wife's care. What a fantastic doctor. God Bless Dr. Hwang."
"I cannot put into words what an honor it was to have Shelly as my advisor and oncologist on my DCIS diagnosis. She tried to save me from having a masectomy by an re excision but I still did not have clear margins...the distance of no pre cancer cells around the huge area she took (2nd lumpectomy). What a genuine caring lady. She hugged me and said "I am so sorry...but we need to get to rid of it all" meaning mastectomy. I was not numb across the chest as they said I would be after surgery. She did an excellent job. Sent me to an award winning Plastic Surgeon who only does breast cancer these days. Now Iook normal in clothes and couldnt be more pleased!! It was also nice to have a woman."
"On October 31, 2016, I received a diagnosis of breast cancer, following a routing mammogram and biopsy. Between my family and myself, we have been treated at Duke for several procedures/illnesses. I called the office of Dr. Shelly Hwang for an appointment, as surgery was being advised here locally. For first-time patients, you are transferred to a voice mail and asked to leave a message/phone number. It is now November 3, I have left three messages and my primary doctor has left one message. I have not heard anything from anyone. Naturally, after hearing the word "cancer" I am very nervous and wishing to be seen. I'm not sure whether to look elsewhere or what."
