The house gained historical significance on April 6, 1968, during the Silent Vigil at Duke University, when 450 students marched to deliver a list of demands to Duke president Douglas M. Knight following the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. The house was officially named after Knight and his wife, Grace Nicholas Knight, in 2003.
With its ribbed copper roof caps and interior paneling made from bald cypress, the Knight House is a unique and elegant space for hosting events, conferences, and guests. The house was featured in the Modernism in Duke Forest tour in 2012, showcasing its architectural and historical importance.
