"Certainly deserving of the Michelin Bib Gourmand award. The place was bustling at dinner and the service was fairly on cue. Our server Tony did a great job with recommendations. The food is served family style. Of the 3 large plates we ordered, the pork curry noodle was our favorite. The curry broth was very flavorful and not too spicy. The only thing I would ask of the chef was to add fewer of the flat egg noodles that was to increase volume. The special steak and noodle with the sauces was excellent with the crispy vegetables. Do not add the bang-bang sauce anywhere if you didn’t want to make things super spicy."
"I randomly came across this spot while searching for a simple but healthy lunch. The room is super warm and homey with exposed brick and wood floors, I was instantly happy with my choice. I was there on a random Wednesday and the room was 40% full so there was good energy but not so busy the staff was overrun. The menu is classic Southeast Asian and I quickly found a vegan banh mi made with mushrooms which sounded amazing, and it was. I don’t normally eat vegan, but this sounded so unique I had to try it. in addition, I ordered a limeade, which was also delicious. All in all I really enjoyed this spot and will most certainly be back."
"I can't stand this place at all! I've been to so many Laotian and Vietnamese restaurants, and none of them have been as terrible as this one. The only reason I even came here was because they offered pho and it was convenient for my friend. But as soon as we arrived, they made me wait for my friend at a table. And when my friend finally showed up, they were only a little busy with just a couple of other tables. The server came over to take our order, but I was so disappointed because they didn't even make an effort to understand what I wanted. All I asked for was a vegetarian pho, without any meat. The only thing they offered me was cauliflower, and it wasn't even cooked properly. It was just raw cauliflower pieces with beef broth. I don't mind the meat broth, but seriously, how hard is it to add some other veggies like carrots and onions? The server didn't even try to offer any alternatives, so I had to explain everything to them. And when I finally got my pho, it only had broth, rice noodles, and a little bit of cilantro. After reminding the server, they brought me a few pieces of uncooked cauliflower. Can you believe it? Meanwhile, my friend was enjoying her food and everything, but she mentioned that the server wasn't even thinking and had charged me $31 for a pho with just broth, no meat, rice noodles, and cauliflower. It was a complete rip-off, to be honest. I think this place is not that great. The server clearly has no idea how to provide good service or accommodate order modifications. Overall, my experience was terrible because the service was awful, and the food was a complete rip-off for me. Maybe it's a decent place if you stick to ordering what's on the menu. i had to go next block falafel place to eat lol."
"Pleasantly surprised by this last minute choice.. we are really big fans of both Vietnamese and Thai food which I found this delicious Laotian restaurant to be a great reflection of both. The appetizers (roasted and braised brussels sprouts and the spring rolls were amazing). The sauce for the Brussels sprouts on its own was the highlight of the entire menu… that is until the soups arrived. We had the curry and the pho and I was blown away by the flavors of both broths and how the noodles were able to absorb them. My one complaint was the mocktails were bland… but that’s easily corrected. We also had these coconuts with coconut water which was a refreshing reprieve from the spicy flavors. All in all some of the best SE Asian food I’ve had in NYC! Service-wise I think they need to work on better rotating the waiters as we were there later on a Friday and the waiters could barely handle the tables. It took over 15 minutes to put in our food orders. Food quality however more than compensates for service woes."
"Play ocean food which I've never had, smaller portion sizes but it gets you to try a bunch of different things. I particularly liked the little rice that you use your fingers to break apart, the pork belly was a little too rich for me. A lot of the dishes are spicy so keep that in mind. I think they had a really good quail. Ribs were good but I would skip the sausage. Fried fish looked cool but hard to break up and eat with forks. Would have been better with some chopsticks."
