"Came here yesterday with my fiance, the beach was closed off, the bathrooms are disgusting and don't have toilet paper or a sink, luckily we ate first before doing anything. It's a shame that this place has the potential to be much better, but not provided with the right resources to make it better. This place is expecting to convince people to pay to visit in the future. I don't think it will workout successfully for them."
"Place looks beautiful but came on a Tuesday in September 2023 and the entire beach was locked up, what are the hours and times it's open? Seems odd to invest so much money on a new facility and then leave it closed. Weekends only?"
"Have been here twice in the last 2 weeks to launch our boat. Used the restrooms prior to launching. No toilet paper either time. Good thing I took some old napkins with me. Learned from the first visit. Our daughter came last week to fish and said that the restrooms still had no toilet paper and feces smeared all over the inside. That was cleaned up but still no TP. Noticed that the beach area is getting overgrown with weeds. Water looks murky. Have not gotten in the water thank goodness according to the previous posts that would not be good. This park could be so awesome. 7 million spent to create such a beautiful area just to let it go like this. I really hope that Gaston county pulls it resources and makes this a great place to bring our families."
"For a new facility, this place was terrible. There were 2 police sitting the parking lot which already made me question the safety when I pulled in. Only one bathroom was unlocked & it was absolutely horrific. The smell alone was suffocating. They have changing stations beside the restrooms also but none of the doors had coverings so they were useless. The grass was dead & the grounds unkempt. The actual beach water was too thick with mud & debris to swim. Picnic tables would've been nice, however, the bugs were EVERYWHERE & most of the tables were dirty w/ trash or spilled food that attracted the critters. Not a good experience. Won't return."
"Update: I emailed Duke and they are not able to rectify the lake floor issue due to permits. So not going back due to how unbearable it is to get in the water. Not to mention dangerous as we pulled out much glass and cans. The facilities are nice. Brand new. Bathroom and covered picnic tables. Easy to park and easy to walk to beach. No shade in the beach area so be prepared. Here’s why it’s a 3 star- the mud in the water is so gross and thick. You sink past your ankles no matter where you step. Crocs beware- the mud will suck them right off your feet. And you really do need shoes on with all the glass/sunken garbage/sticks in the mud. I hope they can address the issue because otherwise a great spot to swim."
