"There are people that have worked there for the past 3 years or more that have no customer service experience even with repeat customers that pay their salaries. One staff person even calls herself a manager which is laughable. Prices were low and fair until she started working there 4 years ago. She decided to raise all the prices of items to ridiculous high prices and did it with an attitude as well. Of course she does not live in Poughkeepsie, because if she did the people that live here would not put up with her nasty attitude. They need to let her go and replace her with someone that has the maturity to deal with low income customers. It's time to turn the page on this person. Out with the old and in with the new! She is a bully, abusive and practices the art of discrimination freely without a regard for others rights to shop there"
"Never shopped here, only donated. But we never will donate again after our recent experience. We showed up with three boxes of goods on a Saturday, and pulled up to the curb. We could see employees standing there looking out the window, doing nothing else. My husband went in to see if he could get some help with the boxes, and was told by one employee,"I'm not doing that." In the meantime a male employee standing there didn't offer to help at all. My husband had to get the dolly himself and deal with taking the boxes in. Nobody on staff lifted a finger and the male employee threw massive attitude. We were informed that the manager was not there. On Monday,I called to speak with the manager and got some person claiming to be a "receptionist. " When I asked to be connected to the thrift store, this person claimed the phones were down( likely story) and offered to give the manager a message. I told him about the incident on Saturday, and he said he would make sure to give the manager the message and have that person call me.I haven't heard from them. Side note: Tuesday we took some stuff to the Goodwill store in Wappingers Falls and had the complete opposite experience. Friendly, helpful employee that offered assistance without being asked.Same type of organization, totally different mindset."
"Honestly a pretty darn good thrift store. I normally try to avoid SA as a charity because of their unethical practices (evangelicalism and anti-queer discrimination) but I'm also low income enough that I need to buy cheap clothes from thrift stores or discount retailers. At least if it's secondhand it's not supporting fast fashion waste and sweatshops, and SA is more ethical than Amazon (a low bar.) Strictly as a thrift store and not discussing the wobbly morals of the parent company, this location is pretty good. It's clean and decently organized with a lot to choose from in a lot of sizes. The staff are friendly and helpful (which implies they must be fairly paid and treated - they seem to generally have positive energy and not be burnt out) and they permit use of the dressing room. I found a lot of sharp looking, non shabby items as a medium sized woman with large feet (multiple size ten boots new with tags from nice brands to choose between) and I witnessed a big and tall gentleman being very pleased to find a lot of things in his size. The staff and clientele are ethically diverse (black, white, Latin, Asian, i mean literally "a variety of people" and not a euphemism for "only minorities") and there is surprisingly good energy between all the people there: the white staff does not act weird towards minorites and the minority staff doesn't seem worse treated and the people coming in to shop are often with friends of different ethnicitiy. At least half of people even still wear their masks. Really, a surprisingly good experience for a regular old SA thrift store."
"I would say MOST of the prices are reasonable when on sale. They are the only organization around doing 3 colors on sale a week and one of those is .99 cents. However, $25 for a coat or $30-$40 for some shoes is crazy. This isn't a location in the suburbs. This is in a location with low income housing and people in need. Unless its on sale most people cannot afford the prices. I do sometimes find treasures though."
