"Despite numerous phone calls and even resorting to spelling out all the details in multiple letters, the billing department continues to be thoroughly confused and incompetent. Each time I am assured that they have "fixed it" only to be contacted again with the same issue. When I have asked to speak with a supervisor, I am always told that they are "not available" because they are busy regardless of the time of day or day of the week in which I call. My heart goes out to anyone having to deal with this debacle of an organization. Healthcare is certainly not a priority as they create unnecessary stress for anyone who has to deal with them. UPDATE: Today I received a call from a representative at HCA/Mission Health who was able to work through the issues and update my account correctly. I am so grateful and am feeling deeply relieved to finally have this resolved."
"It's horrible what has happened to this hospital. I have always thankfully received excellent care but the heartlessness with which billing is handled since HCA took over is disgraceful. Those in charge of continuing to put people who have been sick, injured, or suffering greatly from illness in horrible debt should be ashamed of themselves."
"Mission Hospital in Asheville is never going to be a safe place to receive medical care as long as HCA is involved. The doctors are wonderful but HCA has very limited interest in patient care. Please do not go unless absolutely necessary."
"Unbelievable! I did not receive a bill from Mission, though they claim to have sent one. Doubtful, as the billing person I spoke to today said it was sent out Oct 9, then said it was sent Oct 10. The bill never arrived. Instead, I get an unitemized bill (and phone calls) from a collection agency. When I asked for a copy of the bill, they sent a description of services rendered, with no information on insurance payments, adjustments, etc. And Mission billing cannot provide me with a copy of the bill which I did not receive, as the account has been moved to collections. I live within crawling distance of Mission. I drove 20 miles to Advent hospital last time I needed hospital services. Mission is living up to its reputation as the worst hospital around! EDIT 4/5/23 I question whether the business office at Mission is sorry (as indicated in reply shown below). Why would I take additional time to speak to someone at Mission when the billing person told me that Mission was incapable of sending me a bill, as they referred the matter to a (Mission-owned) collection agency. The collection agency has agreed to send me a copy of the bill. Sad to say, I will pay the bill when (if?) it arrives. I wish I was paying a different hospital. Mission used to be a pretty good place. Not now! So sorry for the workers there. Pretty disappointed by the business office policies. I cannot recommend this place."
"Unfortunately, the negative reviews are accurate about this money hungry corporation. While the staff at the hospital I go to couldn’t be any better, truly just incredible care and bedside manner. I don’t blame them for the bills I’m incurring due to private corporations that are taking over hospitals, or the poor health care system in our country. For context I am going through cancer treatment, have had 2 surgeries and will most likely have more, with ongoing treatment. I continue to be slammed with costly bills that have to be disputed time and again. For a surgery I will have 3-5 (often more, different bills). It’s a chore to apply for financial aid, each individual bill has to have a separate application. And if the bill comes from a different company working with HCA you have to track down how to apply. When I go in for imaging, even at an offsite location I’m sent multiple bills (including facility fees). I’ve had a few bills sent to me twice as if I’m getting the same procedure done at two different locations. HCA is criminal and needs be investigated. I don’t blame the staff who work for HCA, the hospital staff, or staff at connected medical offices. I imagine they are all underpaid and wish HCA was not running their place of work. CEOs and other higher ups of HCA are the ones profiting off of everyone. It seems facilities are told to bill with the highest codes and to be inaccurate with bills (getting an itemized bill from them is a whole other story) in hopes patients are worn out enough to just move on, stop disputing, and pay. It is inhumane and unjust that corporations like HCA are profiting off patients who are expected to pay these exorbitant bills. Health care in our country comes at such a high cost with the need to put in part time hours just to get no where in disputing inaccurate medical bills. See a few of my bills below, most are not sent to insurance the first time and take hours of work to get sent and then require more disputing after they are sent. It’s an endless cycle with HCA"
