"Had eaten there prior twice as I am from out of town. Cute place with good food for the price. Went last night and I’m not sure what happened but the place is a disaster. The bartender was pretty slow. Our hostess was kind but for some reason kept her cell phone ring on and as loud as possible and it was very audible from where we were sitting, ruining the ambiance of your evening. Our poor waitress knew she was in the middle of a disaster. Communication must be poor amongst the staff as several items we ordered come to find out were not available and the food came out at different times. Finally and funny as hell, our waitress asked a kid member of our party if she wanted a scoop of vanilla ice cream for desert and when she reemerged from the kitchen we were told there had been some sort of incident with the ice cream. Uhhhh what? Ok, check please. My fiance and I have another gift certificate for this place but I don’t think we’ll be heading back. Sad to see"
"We used to LOVE Bernard’s Grove. We always went for Holiday Dinners and special events. Unfortunately, since changing owners it is no longer the same. Our group of 10 had our usual holiday dinner this evening. The steaks tasted as if they were old meat and were not cooked to order (temperature wise). Our meals came out at different times resulting in some being completely finished before others received their plates. Our waitress was wonderful and said she would address the issue with the owner, who was very active on the floor. We were told at least one of the meals would be removed if not two. After receiving our bill; neither meal was removed. Pointing out the discrepancy to our waitress resulted in neither meal being removed but rather 6% of the check (not even close to the equivalent of the meals that were prepared incorrectly). It is sad to see a neighborhood gem go down hill, so fast. They may sell the story that nothing has changed but unfortunately it is VERY different. Food is not what it used to be, not worth the money anymore. Sad to take this place off our list of restaurants but we will not return."
"The service is fantastic. They are prompt to check on you without hovering and care about your experience. The food is amazing. I had the Char Grilled Black Angus Fillet. The fillet came cooked perfectly to order and the red wine Demi glaze was outstanding. The fresh vegetables were perfectly cooked and consisted of squash strips, eggplant strips and red pepper strips. My GF had the char-grilled porterhouse pork chop. The rice was slightly below her standard but being Puerto Rican, she is a bit of a rice snob. The apples were a bit sour but added a nice contrast to the chop. Overall, this is a high recommend. The place needs an aesthetic update but you can’t eat the decor. The only bad thing I can say if forced is that my butter for the bread was served right out of the fridge and would have destroyed the warm bread. I asked for it to be warmed up a bit and the waitress had no issue. Again, great service with a smile."
"The food was outstanding! Truly one of the best steaks I’ve ever had in my life - the ribeye special was served hot, well-seasoned, perfectly cooked, and buttery melt-in-your-mouth texture. The shrimp and crab bisque, croquette, and Caesar salad were all really great too. I had a hard time deciding what to get for dessert because everything sounded incredible - went with the creme brûlée and it did not disappoint! Portion sizes for everything were generous - we both came home with leftovers. Quality, taste, beautiful presentation, and portion size were all on par for the prices and exceeded expectations. The owner was so great and really wonderful to talk to as well! There’s a lovely outdoor seating area when weather is nice, and the atmosphere inside is warm and cozy - everyone feels like a friend. Definitely make a reservation in advance and plan to enjoy a drink at the bar while you wait for your table because it gets packed. Our drinks (regular brandy old fashioneds) were $12 each and that felt a little pricey for what they were, but fine for a special night out. If you’re opposed to credit card fees, bring cash. Great find - a really special place. I can absolutely see why they have regulars!"
"Went there with another couple to have dinner. First the roll were cold and crumbled when you tried to butter them. Later in meal more warm but dry rolls were brought to the table. My date thought her dinner small compared with price. Flavor was good. In fact everyone thought there meal was under par for the price. I had Shrimp and Mussels over linguine with a white wine sauce. It was very watery and the sauce was thin like water. It didn't stick to the noodles. The flavor was not bad but it was not as enjoyable because of the sauce. It came with 3 shrimp and 5 mussels for $28. I ordered a Caesar Salad which I have ordered many times from 50 or more other restaurants. This did not taste like any Caesar Salad I've ever ordered anywhere. I don't know if they put the wrong dressing on it or that was there version but I would never order that again from this place if I ever want go back again. The tables are small and the tables are close together. We had a party of 4 and the two people setting by the window could not get out of there chair unless the person next to them got up and moved their chair and themselves out of the way.We had an appetizer that we shared which had to removed (appetizer plate and 4 small plates) to make room for are salad plates to put in front of us so you can get a sense of how small the tables are. Then the table was cleared again to make room for our dinner plates."
